Thank you Zach. I'll keep my eyes open for the gel caps if this cough doesn't settle down.

RLS and anti-virals

I know there is a huge list of medications we should avoid since we have RLS, but I haven't found any reference to the anti-virals like Tamaflu. In asking the Dr. today, he said it should be fine (meaning no interactions with other meds.), but I don't know if he was really listening, and I didn't as...

For the moment, I seem to have a combination of Mirapex 1.5 mg. and Clonazepam 1 mg. that has been the most successful for the RLS/PLMD. I am finally getting a full night's sleep, which I consider 8 hours. My side effects are mainly dry mouth and some sleepiness during the day. Of course, who knows ...

Nadia, Thank you so much for the detailed response, and I regret that I hadn't seen your post earlier. The trial and error continues. I was getting six hours of sleep (but not uninterrupted) and now I'm back to waking up several times, tossing, turning, going into another room to read and going back...

I would be most comfortable seeing a Neurologist, probably because I already do see one, who is helping treat my RLS/PLMD and so far, her Rx advice has worked quite well. It's not perfect, yet, but I'd much rather see a specialist than a GP.

Just checking with you Betty. Did you ever get to talk to your Dr. and did he give you anything to help with sleep? Hope all is well. Maddie

Thank you for all the suggestions and recommendations. I'm still working on it; trying to get some combination where I'm not waking so frequently or waking up at 3:30 and thinking it's time to get up. Catfish, I take .5 Klonopin at night and so far, she hasn't suggested an increase.

Yes, I've read that Trazodone isn't prescribed much as an antidepressant anymore because it really failed in that category. It caused so much sleepiness, that apparently it's now prescribed more as a sleep aid. Betty, many people have good luck with Restoril (Temazepam) also. I used it for a short t...

Hi Betty, Thanks for the reminder. It was just the fact that he gave you an antidepressant for sleep which sparked the other part of the conversation and its possible adverse effects on RLS. Maybe you said, but please remind me, do you take something for your RLS (other than the opiods you mentioned...

Hi Betty, From what I've read in various places, the tricylic antidepressants (such as Amitriptyline), seem to aggravate RLS the most, although all antidepressants apparently can cause a problem. I do wonder just how much testing has been done with the antidepressants and their affects on RLS, since...

Thank you Mark. I take .5 mg. of Klonopin and 1 mg. of Mirapex (which the doctor increased when I originally told her that I still was waking frequently). I've resorted to getting up and reading when this happens and then going back to bed which worked last night. It did help to stay up a little lat...

Sleep expectations

I was just wondering what I should be expecting as far as improved sleep is concerned now that I'm taking Mirapex and Klonopin for my RLS and PLMD? I usually go to bed around 10:00 on work nights with the hope that I can make it until 6:30 and I have yet to get there. I usually wake up once to go to...

Kelly, I also take an antidepressant (Cymbalta) and have just increased my Mirapex dosage to 1 mg. taken with .5 Klonopin and the RLS seems much more under control. I take the RLS medications at night since I was severely sleep deprived. My sleep is not perfect yet, but is much better and I keep hop...

I am taking 1 mg. of Mirapex and .5 of the Klonopin, but usually only an hour before bed. I may need to take it a little earlier I think. I don't really have any trouble going to sleep, although I'm still waking up a couple times a night and usually the second time is the toughest time to get back t...
