Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) Discussion Board

I've been suffering with RLS for years and do not have any of the mentioned illness. I do, however, have a myriad of allergies and am presently suffering from itching legs as well as RLS. So you can imagine trying to get a good nights sleep.

I wondered if it could be associated in any way to RLS ...

My doctor finally prescribed Ropinirole 2 mg for me... I could not wait to try it, my symptoms have been so bad lately. First night I woke up at 4 a.m. sicker than I have ever been in my life. Nausea, and weakness so bad I could hardly make it down the stairs. Luckily I had anti-nausea pills on hand ...

I've been diagnosed with RLS and now I am suffering with itching legs... from the ankles to the knees. No rash, just itching that is driving me nuts. If I scratch the legs turn bright red but no rash. Cold water is the only relief I get, but can't carry that around or take it to bed with me.

I did notice something though. When I get a pedicure and the person giving it rubs the bottom of my feet with a brush or files my toe nails... I get a similar sensation... which makes me think. The feet are where the nerve endings are. Is RLS related to the nervous system?

Hi and welcome. I sure can feel like RLS has ruined my life, but I try to think of it more in terms of "it has changed my life." I do hope you can get some relief so that your life is a bit better.

I'm really upset with my doctor. I called her office and told her DA that I wanted an iron test for RLS and she sent me a script. All they tested was iron... period. No ferritin. So now she is trying to prescribe some RLS drug that starts with an "R" and my insurance company is refusing to pay ...

Adult males: 75-175 micrograms/dL


Adult females: 65-165 micrograms/dL


Children: 50-120 micrograms/dL


Newborns: 100-250 micrograms/dL.

As far as I know it was just a routine blood test to see what my iron levels were. The order just said "iron".

I suffer terribly from RLS and read somewhere on the Internet that RLS may be caused by low iron. So I asked my doc to order a blood test.
The office called to say my levels were normal at 47. The range, they said, was 40- 110. And they think 47 isn't low???????

What do you people think of this?

I tried to print the article; Mayo Clinic Algorithm for RLS but it would not print.

Is there a way to print it? I want to take to the doc's with me when I go in Oct.

I'm from Buffalo NY. I'm taking Cartia for blood pressure, and Prilosec for GERD. That's it. Sometimes I have allergic sinusitis and get a violent fit of it that only Benydryl will help... I will then suffer terribly with RLS. But aspirin or Tylenol never made it worse ...

I have not been diagnosed officially. My doctor is not familiar with RLS.

I do not have pain... I see others here have pain. I do not. I just have to keep moving my legs. There is a feeling in them that just wants to move... hard to explain. I get a similar feeling when I am overly tired or bored ...

This may be a longer post, but I highly advise anyone with RLS to read all of it and try my course of action.
