Re: True friends

WOW... I have not logged into here in several months. And today, a day that I happen to be realizing how truly NOT MYSELF I really am... The first thread that I read is one that I can relate to so completely. I never really linked depression with RLS (or meds) - only sleep deprivation. I don't have ...

For me, it's definitely the muscle involvement. Sometimes I can manage by simply tensing my muscles; when I am unable to get up and walk. When it's really bad - and painful/achy - I do a lot of stretching and bending, and curling up and tensing. Last year, when I had surgery on my hip, RLS was a big...

I do drink coffee regularly, and I don't notice much difference with or without it. However... excessive amounts of caffiene such as energy drinks (monster, rock star, etc.) or those 5 hour energy shots kick my legs into super high gear to the point of not just wiggly, but so achy I can hardly bear ...

I didn't have too much trouble after my surgery. Maybe just a few "episodes..." I took and was given my usual meds the whole time I was in the hospital, and recovered with Vicodin. Lying flat on my back was not fun, but I was forced to for the first few weeks with my leg in a CPM (continuo...

Dehydration, the flu, etc... is notorious for exacerbating my RLS symptoms! Like; it's not bad enough that I'm sick, but my legs gotta be crazier and more painful!?!? But that is most often the case for me.

I normally sleep in the "h" position... That is, either side; with one leg bent, and one leg straight, sometimes leaning slightly towards my stomach. When my RLS is bad though, I curl up into a ball on my knees with my head buried in the sheets. Or kneeling backwards on the couch, rocking ...

Requip gives me that dizzy/nauseous feeling about an hour after taking it. And taking it with food didn't seem to make a difference, either. Luckily, I only have to take it at night before going to bed, so I just make sure I lie down right afterwards. If I'm lying down, the dizziness doesn't come. H...

I would say that I tend to handle my RLS in a similar way... I consider tensing my muscles almost equivalent to "moving" in regards to RLS. Especially when I'm in a place or situation (like a business meeting) where I simply am not able to get up and move. So I "wiggle" and tense...

I don't talk about my RLS at all to anyone. Even my husband is skeptical, even though he's seen me squirm and moan and cry about it, and he knows that I take medicine for it. I'm actually dreading having to mention it to my surgeon (I'm having hip surgery in two weeks) at all, not to mention with my...

Thanks everyone for responding. Thank you so much beth for the document! I have printed it out, and will bring it to my pre-op appointment with the surgeon.

Hip Surgery

I know that we all have trouble "sitting still" for any length of time. I've seen suggestions for long drives, flights, meetings, etc... But now I've got another dilemma. Hip surgery is in my very near future. Both hips - about 3-6 months apart. Open hip surgery. I am so worried about what...

I remember going on a bus tour with some friends to New York, and I had to get up on my knees facing the back to get any relief. I do this all the time! At home - I curl up, sitting on my knees, facing the back of the couch and rock back and forth. Or in bed, I will curl my knees under my chest, wi...

It is nice to know there are other people out there that we have this in common with... My daughter will be 13 tomorrow. She's becoming more active in sports these days, and I haven't heard her complain about her "itchy legs" at night in a few years. But it was always in the back of my min...
