Aiken, I'd really mention that to your current neurologist and ask for a cervical MRI. Although you get relief by babying your neck, what if you were ever rearended in a car? The warning from my neurologist that I could be paralized is what finally convinced me to have surgery, an L3/4 laminectony. ...

I use the full length compression stockings a lot. I keep them on for naps or if my legs start up while I'm sitting and I put them on two hours before bedtime most nights, taking them off just as I go to bed. This is in addition to taking hydrocodone ( 7.5 mg) 3 or 4 times a dayand a muscle relaxant...

Antibiotics?
Has anyhone had problems with antibiotics making the RLs flare up? I've been doing great lately on hydrocodone, even able to miss the last dose of the day without problems. However the past few mights, I've been able to fall asleep only to be wakened by RLS after maybe half an hour. The only thing n...

Hehe...love the drawing, Aiken. I use a pillow, too... a small one folded in half between my knees since I sleep on my side. I've even perfected rolling over with the pillow in p[lace. It's mostly for my back but can help the RLS when I lay on the most affected side. I usually lose it before moring ...

The only thing I have to add to the great stuff already posted is that if he is still taking hydrocodone and does try to discontinue it, to do so very gradually. A sudden stoppage can cause much worse RLS symptoms as well as some withdrawal symptoms. This does not mean he's addicted but anyone takin...

Hehe nope, Susan, not a real zookeeper, although at one time I wanted to be. Instead I have my own little zoo: currently 8 cats , two dogs and a house chicken plus all the wild life we feed, deer: turkey, racoons and squirrels. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you try to help your mom. Do rem...

Susan, I'm like you...I've had two back surgeries. I spend a lot of time sitting on my bed or crosslegged on my computer chair. Other chairs hurt my back and, for me, sitting Indian style not only supports my back, it seems to delay onset of the RLS crap. I do have a set routine I use before going t...

I agree with Sojourner. If the vicoden or percocet works, take it. You might see if vicoden will work, rather thatn percocet. It's less strong an opiate and for me, I can take it throughout the day with no ill effects on my ability to function. In fact, I usually take it 4 times a day, since mu RLS ...

I've had several steriodal epidurals for low abck pain prior to my recent surgery. They didn't seem to e=affecr my RLS at all but of course I was also taking hydrocodone for the pain and it reliefs my RLS very well.
Perhaps ask the Dr what meds he will use and see if they are on the Mayo algorythem?

I wonder if it's the difference in the heat of the body as opposed the temp of our legs/feet? I know I can't sleep if my feet are hot...the RLS hits right away. Right now I sleep with a fan aimed directly at my feet and the AC set at about 68. I fold the bed covers back at the foot of the bed. Now i...

I'd have to wonder about that, too. I take Lexapro, a very small dosage most of the time, although I did increase it this past winter when it seemed that SAD was making itself part of the problem. I will try using a light box for it next winter. I have had no increase in RLS from the Lexapro and non...
