A few lessons I learned during this ordeal of treating RLS while pregnant: 1. Methodone was the best choice I could have made to treat my RLS during pregnancy. It covered my symptoms 100%. 2. As long as I stayed under 40mg/day, my baby would have little to no chance of having withdrawl issues right ...

I love LOVE my perinatologist! Dr. Airoldi (Jim) in Bethlehem, PA is an amazing doctor. He didn't know anything about RLS and treating it with Methodone until he met me. But because I was his patient, he made it his business to learn as much as he could. Every time I went to see him, he told me abou...

Its week 35! Jacob Richard is scheduled to be born in November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving. I am very happy to tell you that my blood sugar numbers are under control, I show no signs of pre-eclampsia and my RLS symptoms are completely GONE on the methodone. Yes, you read that correctly....GONE!...

Wow, 30mgs was way too much. I just woke up from my methadone-induced coma and have decided to decrease the dose to 20mg. The good news is that I have had ZERO rls symptoms since starting methadone. I'm now going to go say a little prayer that the methadone continues to work at the lower dosage. BTW...

Its week 28, the beginning of my 3rd trimester, and I have finally made the switch to Methodone (from Oxycontin). I just started it yesterday. I am on a total daily dose of 30mg. The plan is to see how it goes over the next couple of days and make adjustments as necessary. I feel such a sense of rel...

Julie and Ann, thanks for your encouragement. That was ONE BAD DAY! But as emotional as pregnancy is, I am every bit of that and more. My 8 year old son has become so accustomed to seeing tears in my eyes, that he just hands me the tissue, pats my back and says "its ok, mom". My hubby frea...

Here I am freaking out after watching a Dr. Phil episode today that showed newborns in the NICU going through withdrawl. I realize the show was showing worse case scenarios but it scared me. There is so much info on the internet about women who "abuse" oxycontin and who are "addicted&...

QUICK UPDATE: I think its interesting how my OB and Perinatologist have two different opinions about the narcotics. My OB doesn't want me on them, or at least as little as possible, because of the problems after birth for the baby. But my Peri has no problems with it at all. He says that its a commo...

Things are beginning to change rapidly. Its really starting to get interesting now! (That's just my sarcasm showing through). My neurologist finally decided to switch me over to Oxycontin, supplementing with Oxycodone. I am currently taking 40mg Oxycontin during the day and 40mg at night, and 20mg O...

Beth, interesting idea about resistance during bedrest. Thanks for that. Also, what does WED mean? I've not heard that term. And, no, no one has discussed Oxycontin as opposed to Oxycodone. I was not aware that there was much of a difference between the two. I'll check into it. Thanks for the encour...

Here's the latest update: I am now in week 17 of pregnancy, which means I'm in my second trimester. We finally got the right program of dosing worked out with the Oxycodone. I take one 5mg tablet every 3 hours throughout the day. At bedtime (around 10pm), I take 15mg. When I wake up at 1am, I take a...

Hi Beth, thanks for the encouragement! And the hugs!! I can use all I can get right now. I am happy with Dr. Fry. She is utilizing the other doctors in her practice, as well as my OBGYN and Perinatologist in making decisions about my RLS care. Everyone is in agreement right now, so I am comfortable ...

Ok, so this entry may include a little bit of venting. I apologize in advance. I am 10 weeks pregnant with a due date of November 30th. It took 3 tries to get the right due date but we now have what we think is an accurate date. So I am towards the end of my first trimester and I'm feeling so comple...
