Re: RLS news that concerns Veterans

I wonder if it's diet. When I return from field work, and toward the ends of longer jobs in the field, my symptoms are always worse. No fresh food. One year we ate freeze-dried food, and even though it was "gourmet" freeze-dried food, all handmade, the symptoms were really bad that year an...

Re: Brain chemistry or pathways and dopamine agonists

Has anyone heard of brain chemistry or Neuro pathways being altered by DA's such that one "needs" at least a small amount of DA, after being on them for years? In ordering the Relaxis, i got to talking to the rep about my experience with DA and he said there was a mounting evidence of thi...

Re: Changing my diet may have solved my RLS

This likely explains why 1800 mgs of gabapentin did nothing... but going back to 1/3 of my DA took care of my symptoms. Diabolical. Symptoms worsen to such a degree that one has to use at least some of it. Sounds like a drug manufacturer's dream Yes, that's probably the explanation! But there are o...

Re: Changing my diet may have solved my RLS

Taking iron every second day is sort of an extended version of the advice to take your entire daily dose all at once, not spread out over the day. The advice is given because iron isn't absorbed unless your blood levels are low, which they won't be if you've taken iron recently. The second-day theor...

Re: Kratom berry compote

Its interesting though because, although I feel like my sleep is refreshing and my HRV is high, this scientific article would indicate that opioid have a negative affect on sleep cycles. http://jcsm.aasm.org/Articles/030106.pdf That's more along the lines of what many of us have found. Kratom conta...

welcome to warren1333, who has had RLS since his teens, and is now in his 50's. It has disrupted his sleep for years and made sitting in a theatre or on a plane unbearable. warren1333, you're in the right place because we all know how you feel. STart a thread to tell us more about yourself or to ask...

Re: Methadone was working, now it's not

There are three possible reasons for your daytime sleepiness that I can see. One is the gabapentin, which Holland suggests you experiment with reducing first (it's the least likely to cause problems if you reduce the dose, so its the easiest to test to see if it's the cause). Second is the methadone...

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Ah Jim. It sucks to have to be grateful that we're in the frying pan and not the fire. Of course it's better in the frying pan, but gee. Horizant might not be any better than gabapentin. Its advantage is that it bypasses the issues of erratic absorption that gabapentin has, by being absorbed as a pr...

@ Borzoibabe Your neurologist is clearly ignorant of the basics of WED/RLS. Her attitude is unfortunately common. Since she's your best bet for a referral, and in an effort to keep things pleasant, probably the best thing to do is bring her some literature. Specifically, if you can, print out the Me...

Re: What Calms You in the Night?

I always pee before I go anywhere or do anything, whether I have to or not. The preventative pee, I call it. You have to be SO tired to fall asleep glass of milk in hand. As when I fall to sleep in a yoga pose - we are just not meant to be that tired, yet here we all are! I fell asleep the other nig...

Re: Discussion of Adenosine paper

I certainly often need to exercise my limbs rather violently during the night, while lying in bed, but it is not at all the same as WED. It feels 'needful', but quite enjoyable. You do not have to get up and walk, you just lie there and kick the bedclothes to bits. I have never consulted a sleep sp...

Re: Augmentation- Cold Turkey

How much Lyrica are you taking? It's nice that you're getting some sleep. You could decide to keep the slow taper so as not to rock the boat. Or you could stop cold turkey and weather the storm to get it over with. As long as you;re getting a reasonable sleep, no need to stop more quickly. Good luck...

Re: Is It RLS/WED? Or Something Else? Or both?

There was a study that showed that children of mothers with WED/RLS are more likey to have ADD. My younger son has both ADD and WED (and anxiety and a touch of OCD). My older son has none of the above. I strayed off topic, but that's another documented link between WED and ADD.

Re: Augmentation- Cold Turkey

it's a grueling time, but worth it to get off of pramipexole. It sounds like you're on the right road. A rough one, to be sure, but you sound like the kind of person who will see it through. You'll finally get back some of the quality of life you've been missing out on. The worst part will probably...
