One other thought. What prompted my question was the fact that so many people notice an effect on their RLS symptoms by factors that do not seem to be related to RLS, or to each other. Or at least not known to be. I know one person whose RLS disappeared after eliminating concentrated sugar from her ...

Thank you all for the explanations. I have had RLS for nearly 7 years. It has the classic symptoms. And my google results do give a definition of neuropathy. But I can find nothing about the difference between RLS and an underlying neuropathy which causes RLS symptoms. Maybe that's a better way to p...

Neuropathy vs RLS

Can someone explain the difference between neuropathy and RLS? Are they even related? Can you mistake one for the other? I've googled the subjects, and wound up even more confused.

Thanks.

David,

That is terrific. He sounds like a very good doctor indeed.

Yes, you ought elaborate on his method of tapering off a dopamine agonist. I'm sure many members will find it helpful to know.

Anne, Thank you. Yes, some doctors do not seem to believe that Klonopin is physically addictive.

Polar Bear, Thank you for the info.

Polar Bear, I've not heard of Ultram. But I am very familiar with otherwise good doctors who don't much about RLS. The Klonopin was a supplement to Requip, because Requip doesn't quite do it for me either. And I can't increase the Requip, because apparently it causes my blood pressure to drop too mu...

Polar Bear,

Thank you. I wish you success also.

I take it that Requip has not been very good for you(?)

Klonopin Follow-up

2 weeks is enough to cause problems in the very sensitive, but a month is what they consider to be the cut off point. At three months you'd probably have had difficulty if you were sensitive to it, so sounds like it won't be an issue for you. Then again, our body chemistry changes so it's possible ...

hexylia, Welcome to the forum! I've had RLS for 5 years. Mine has never involved pain. It is always a crawling feeling. Yes, walking makes mine go away. Also, riding in a car does not seem to invoke the symptoms for me. And if I'm on a long drive, then that night my symptoms are usually less severe....

Ann,

I'm learning a lot here. I didn't realize the problems some of us have with Klonopin. When I first got RLS, I was on Klonopin for about 3 months. When I stopped, I had no adverse effects at all. But maybe 3 months isn't long enough period to conclude anything (?).

Zach,

You're right on. The neurologist at Hershey has just added .5mg of Klonopin with very good results.

Good idea, I'll show him the email. Thanks.

My neurologist just put me on 325mg Ferrous Sulfate. One per day to start out with. Because of the possibility of upset stomach and constipation. I told him don't be so quick to knock constipation. It might be a gas. Just picked up the prescription this morning. Will post the results after a week or...

talmans,

Clonazepam by itself does not help me. But it helps as supplement to 1mg of Requip. I take .5mg of Clonazepam around 8pm, then the Requip around 8:30pm. When it works... I'm in bed by 10:00pm, up for work at 5:30am, and do not notice any unusual drowsiness at that time.

Ann, Thank you. Yes, the reply came back signed "mjb". Sounds like the good doctor himself. Anyway, here's the reply: "It may be hard to fully explain your reaction as it may be peculiar to you and rarely experienced by others. Requip is known to drop blood pressure so it is possible ...
