Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Your experience with your GP is similar to mine. It could be time for me to change to a physician who is a better fit. Of course that may not be possible but I have begun my research. Our journeys are similar and I am consoled to be able to share them as well as find solutions and remain proactive. ...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

This week I met with my new psychiactric nurse. It was a very positive appointment. We discussed my history, my current medications, my hobbies, my family background and of course a possible taper of the clonazepam. She has a copy of the Ashton Manual and is familiar with the suggested tapering sche...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Thank you. I certainly hope so. I have one thing to add: last night I awakened in a sweat and felt shaky so took 1 mg of my Clonazepam and slept well until morning. Today I have energy and feel “normal “ again. My own attempt to taper did not work. I am reminded of a previous post about a member’s m...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

I have printed and thoroughly read the Mayo Clinic document provided by Steve and many thanks for that. The state of New Jersey has the strictest laws regarding the prescribing of opioids for RLS. However I will give my neurologist a copy of the article at my appointment this month with of course no...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Just to clarify my previous post, I do believe that the hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5-325 tablets twice daily for chronic back pain has enabled me to remain on the 1.5 mg Ropinirole the past 1-1/2 years. Of course it is an opioid but not the one indicated for RLS treatment. My lumbar stenosis is bei...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Hi again, The good news is that I was accepted by and have an appointment with a psychiatric nurse in two weeks when I will need a refill on my Clonazepam med. She is local to my area and is familiar with the Ashton method of tapering my 2 mg/day Clonazepam. The bad news is that I have experienced a...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Betty and Steve, I would certainly appreciate it if my doctor could give me an honest reason for not wishing to prescribe Clonazepam but I do not think she will be forthcoming. I was shocked that she wanted to cut the dose from 2 to .5 mg a day considering she has been prescribing it for 5 years whe...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

As suggested I will probably not taper the Ropinirole until I can successfully taper the Clonazepam which has been very difficult the past two weeks. When my doctor handed me the new script I was shocked at the reduction from 2 mg to .5/day. She had mentioned at that appointment she could lose her m...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

My primary called me and asked that I return the script she wrote for .5 mg/day and agreed to write another for three .5 mg./day for one month and if after one month it would not be possible for me to taper to .5 mg./day for one week followed by .25 mg./week then she would refer me to a psychiatrist...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

My primary called me yesterday afternoon to discuss my concerns about her so-called taper. I told her that I needed a slow taper having taken the clonazepam for 30 plus years, never increasing the dosage, and proposed a reduction from 2 mg. to 1.5 mg. per day. When she agreed to this but only for on...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

Thank you for your helpful information. I scheduled a telephonic appointment with my doctor for late this afternoon at which time I will ask her if we can work together on a realistic tapering schedule. Hopefully she will agree to work with me. I think your first two suggestions would be appropriate...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors

My primary doctor gave me my scripts for ambien and clonazepam two days ago. She did not give me my usual dosage of 2 mg a day which dose I had taken for 30+ years. Instead she decided to prescribe.5 mg. In my opinion that is not an acceptable taper. I do have 10 more days of my last script and trie...

Re: Tapering clonazepam before methadone treatment

Answering Ann's comments, yes, I have taken opioids before. In fact, I was given scripts over a three years period for severe back pain prior to my operation. It worked very well for my RLS as well as the pain. I never increased my dose and remained on clonazepam.
