Hi Jcg,
I've read that as many as 10% of those who take methadone may experience increased depression. The symptoms mentioned, appetite suppression and cravings for sugary things, can be attributed to depression. I'm not saying that's what you're experiencing, only that it's a possibility.

Re: What Comes After Methadone?
Hi Bannia, I struggle with taking methadone as well. I admire your fortitude of deciding to completely stop it, but I wonder how you have managed. Please let us know how your doing. Thanks.

Re: I think the doctors broke my brain
Hi Oozz, I'm sorry about your struggles. I don't experience headaches, but I do experience something of an "activating effect." I feel more active around 3-4hrs after taking methadone. I've seen others mention this as well. I wonder if this is somewhat similar to what you experience. I concur with B...

Delayed Sleep Phase: RLS, Opioides, prior DAs
Hello, I posted many years ago about my struggles with delayed sleep phase, and got many responses that I wasn't alone. I wish that I could form a concise question, but there are so many variables. I guess I'm wondering if there has been any definitive answer on the question of delayed sleep phase a...

Re: Is going back on a DA an option after having experienced impulse control disorders with Mirapex and Requip?
Hi rustsmith,
I’m looking for an alternative to methadone, but have experienced ICDs with DA’s in the past. Just curious if anyone has had to go back to a DA after having stopped it due to ICDs etc. My doctor floated the idea of trying rotigotine.

Re: Long-range Refractory RLS post medication adjustment
Hi Rustsmith,
It took over 6wks to get back to baseline after going back up to the original dose. I continue to have sx in the late mornings when attempting to get back to sleep, but nothing like I experienced during the previous weeks.
Thanks,
J

Is going back on a DA an option after having experienced impulse control disorders with Mirapex and Requip?
Hello Brothers & Sisters, I would like to change the methadone (10mg) that I take for rotigotine, but I've done some research and have found conflicting accounts about impulse control disorders (ICDs) and this med. It appears to be as risky as Mirapex or Requip but wanted to see if anyone may have s...

Re: Long-range Refractory RLS post medication adjustment
Thank you for the reply. I can understand why someone may have symptoms when reducing their med, but why would someone continue to have symptoms over two weeks after going back to their usual dose and going up on gabapentin? It seems I’m just about through the worst of it, but weeks? Man, this condi...

Long-range Refractory RLS post medication adjustment
Been on my original therapeutic dose of 10mg methadone for two weeks after lowering methadone and increasing gabapentin to assess tolerability. I continue to experience daytime symptoms. They aren’t as intense as the prior weeks, but they remain. Why does efficacy of the previous therapeutic dose ta...

Worsened mood with methadone 10mg/ rotigotine patch and impulse control disorders (ICDs)
Hello, Been taking an opioid for RLS for a decade now. I’ve noticed that there is an impact on mood, especially in the early morning hours. I also experience some strange waking dream-like symptoms that I’ve been told are likely hypnogogia (?), when waking or falling asleep. Not to mention feeling s...

Re: What Comes After Methadone?
Thanks for the suggestion. It went beyond the apathy and lack of emotion. I had a weird problem develop where I felt like complete garbage every single morning. It started around 2 months in and got progressively worse. From around 20 minutes after waking until around noon, my head felt disoriented...

Re: methadone vs buprenorphine/naloxone
Hi Dr. Placebo, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind giving us an update on your situation. I know that the methadone I'm taking is exacerbating or causing depressive symptoms. Currently, I'm attempting to stay on a lower dose but the RLS symptoms are brutal. Did you ever try the buprenorphine to se...

Re: methadone long-term
I think I’d rather be subjected to waterboarding or worse than have to go through that. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this. I’ve switched from methadone, to suboxone, to fentanyl, and one other, then back to methadone, but without extended breaks. The last week to 10 days without methadone i...

Re: methadone long-term
What’s the longest you have gone without a med? Recently I went about 7 days, unintentionally. It was awful.
Somehow, I went around 2mos about 5yrs ago. I experienced lessened symptoms but I was begging for something more than the Horizant I was given after seeing Dr. Early.

methadone long-term
I’ve been taking an opioid of some sort for over 5yrs. I currently take methadone 7.5mg nightly, but for some time I’ve been experiencing sx 24/7, the kind that come on almost immediately on laying down. I am able to get some rest, but every hour during my usual sleep time I am in pain from the usua...
