Spinal Stenosis = RLS for me
I suffered from 2004 to about 2018, when my interventional radiologist did an epidural spinal injection. I cut my 0pi0d medication by half, then 3/4, then to zero. I realized the jerking that had damaged decades of my life had vanished. That lasted about three months. The second injection lasted abo...

Re: Need pain med that doesn't cause RLS rebound!
Thank you! I'll give naproxen a try. I have an appt. to see my PCP, but it's not until mid-September.

Re: Movement Disorder Specialist--Really?
@ Stainless: You mentioned getting "all bound up" on codeine. Just thought I'd mention that a laxative called Movantik was designed for people taking any sort of opioid. My gastroenterologist prescribes it, and it works wonders.

Need pain med that doesn't cause RLS rebound!
I have severe RLS plus arthritis. If I exert myself during the day, pain from spinal stenosis keeps me awake much of the night, even if my body isn't jerking. I take 30 mg of methadone daily for my severe RLS (10 mg morning, 20 at night), plus as many 100 mg gabapentin as I care to take for breakthr...

Re: I'm back! ..... and scared
Dr. Buchfuhrer has a book that recommends methadone as a last resort; the book's now in its second edition. "Clinical Management of Restless Legs Syndrome" (Hening, Buchfuhrer, & Lee). I showed this to my new sleep doc, and he agreed to prescribe methadone. He sent me to a neurologist ...

Oxygen deprivation and RLS??
My RLS began soon about the same time as I had two experiences. 1) I had fairly severe but undiagnosed sleep apnea, probably for several years. In 2001, I woke choking and gasping in the night. The only thing I could think was heart attack, so called an ambulance, but had no heart problems so they s...

update...
I'm debating that right now. The symptom I'm having as I type is horrible--but it's not RLS. I'm having those full-body spasms associated with Requip withdrawal. What I'm NOT having at this moment is restless legs. So today I'll see if I can stand daytime withdrawal symptoms, or if I give in and tak...

Update--now taking Percocet
Thanks to both of you who've replied! I feel much better without Requip at night! For two days now, I've managed to get by on just one .5 mg dose during the day. We'll see how that goes this week. If I can manage that, my next trick will be to see if I can push my bedtime back. Somehow, it ended up ...

Update--now taking Percocet
My neurologist gave up on me--and I gave up on her. That is, when I told her I was having severe augmentation on Requip, she said she had NOT prescribed that much, so I must have gotten it from some other doctor. Not so! I own a pill bottle with that exact dose on it, and her name as the prescriber....

New topic: how can I tell if Synthroid is helping?
Fascinating! This really seems to fit what I'm going through. When I can get a new appt with my neurologist, I'll ask about opioids. A related question: I recently talked my PCP into prescribing Synthroid, since my TSH was mildly elevated. As you know, I'm taking Requip 24/7 and getting major myoclo...

I'm probably having augmentation on the Requip, then. The symptoms have been increasing steadily ever since I started it--first I needed meds just at night, when a daytime dose, then another and another. I never used to wake up at 4am with full-body jerks; now I do. I remain concerned about opioids....

Does hydrocodone truly leave you clearheaded? Side effects of Requip and/or neurontin--feeling vague, confused, and woozy--are making daily life a joyless chore. I felt unbearably sleepy and confused on clonazepam, but my current regimen is almost worse. I can't think creatively. I can only do routi...

Thanks--I know it's not a good med. But if it winds up being a hoop I have to jump through, I'll give it a try, and as soon as the 1st side effect emerges I'll call the neurologist, explain what's happening, and tell her I'm discontinuing it. The first time I tried it, I didn't take it as directed. ...
