Hydrocodone vs. oxycodone

I have been taking 15 mg Vicodin daily at 8 pm for 9 years along with .25 of Mirapex to control retractable RLS. I wonder if it would be better to switch to oxycodone to avoid all of the acetominaphin in the Vicodin. Any advice? Or is a different opiate a better choice?

Re: Surgery, RLS and opioids

Thank you so much. You brought up a few issues I hadn't thought of. I will talk to my physician at the Pre-op appointment.

Surgery, RLS and opioids

I have refractory RLS and need 15mg of Vicodin and .25 Mirapex daily at 8 pm to control symptoms. I have taken this same dose for 7 years now. I will have sinus surgery in two weeks and am concerned about post surgical pain. Generally Vicodin would be used, but I know from prior experience that my p...

RLS support group meetings

I am the program director for our RLS support group in the Pacific Northwest. I would like to use the webinars at our general meetings. Does anyone out there have a good way to project the webinar/slides content to a large group? Any other suggestions about how I could present the webinar to a group...

Leg cramping in early morning and tingling in hands and feet

I have some odd symptoms developing over the past year or so. I wake up in the night, and especially early morning, with cramping beginning in feet, involving legs and even hands. After I've been up awhile the cramping lessens, but I'm left with tinginling in hands and feet for most of the day. I ha...

Hydrocodone

My friend has taken hydrocodone in the past to control her RLS. Our doctor retired, and she cannot find a new one who will prescribe it to her now. Have the rules changed? She has been to three doctors who prescribed other medicaitons with terrible side effects. she has been suicidal over this. What...

Re: Anyone else tried vicodin?

I have been medicated for RLS/WED for the past 20 years. Sinemet worked for ten, then Mirapex worked for 10, the past two years I have been taking .25 mg Mirapex plus 10 mg Vicodin at 8 PM to control symptoms. It works very well. I am not crazy about taking an opiate on a regular basis, but do not h...

Yes, I feel absolutely clear-headed after taking hydrocodone. And I've taken it now for 2 1/2 years. My doctor said that it is out of my system in 4-6 hours, and I take it at 8:00 PM each night.

Dr. Grammy, i came across your messages this morning, and wish to add my vote for opiate treatment for your RLS. I have needed medication to control my RLS for over twenty years. Sinemet worked for 10, then I experienced augmentation and switched to Mirapex, which lasted another 10 years. In respons...

Ann,

Thank so much for that information. I actually have another book by Buchfuher, Restless Legs Syndrome (2007). I will take another look at his chapter on augmentation.

I had not heard of alternating opioids and Mirapex. I will share that idea with my doctor. She believes that the opioids are safer to take than Mirapex, partially because we have used the opioids for many years and know more about them. We don't really know the long-term effects of Mirapex on the br...

Tracy, Mirapex has been a bit of a miracle drug for me, as it worked very effectively for 10 years. Then I began to get augmentation (more RLS symptoms in the morning and daytime). When I cut down the dose the augmentation effects went away. The augmentation has returned, so I'm trying to cut down t...

It is good to join a group to support my RLS. I have had RLS for 20 years. I was fortunate to find a great physician early on to treat my symptoms. I am 63 years old, taught elementary school for 34 years, and among other things, currently babysit my grandkids in my retirement. Symptoms were control...
