Thanks, Crazy Joe. I posted a separate update on my experience with medical marijuana and hemp oil here:

My experience with medical marijuana and CBD hemp oil

I just wanted to contribute to the growing body of knowledge here concerning the use of MM and CBD hemp oil for treating RLS symptoms. When I first posted my question back in Feb 2015 asking if anyone had experience with hemp oil, there was little response. So it is good to know that more people are...

Hemp oil

I am looking into purchasing hemp oil from a local supplier that I trust. I believe it might help the three ailments that plague me: COPD, chronic lower back pain from 8 herniated disks, and my RLS. Does anyone here have experience using hemp oil for treating RLS and, if so, could you provide result...

Re: What cold/flu drugs make RLS worse?

That's interesting. Wikipedia shows it as a first-generation antihistamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxyzine), which according to RustSmith is something we need to avoid. Have you had no problems with it affecting your RLS, jakesmom?

Re: What cold/flu drugs make RLS worse?

RustSmith and PolarBear, thank you so much. This was exactly the information I was looking for. There are so many knowledgeable and experienced experts on this forum and I appreciate all you do. I am putting together my cold/flu emergency kit and will also share this info with my doc. (Sadly, he is ...

What cold/flu drugs make RLS worse?

I'm a 60-year-old RLS patient currently taking very low-dose Amitriptyline (Elavil) that pretty much helps me sleep through the PLMs and RLS sensations. My question, however, is about OTC cold and flu medications. I've got COPD and am on nighttime oxygen and daytime Anoro ellipta inhaler. I need to ...

Chipmunk, I will disagree slightly with your definition of addiction. My understanding is that addiction is a neurobiological disease characterized by compulsive drug use or continued use of a drug despite physical, mental and/or social harm. In contrast, tolerance is when the body adapts or gets us...

Thanks Zach and everyone. This is definitely something I will discuss with my doctor. I had tried 50 mg Tramadol one time for my degenerative back disease and had to take the entire next day off from work. My doctor probably decided that the opiates wouldn't be suitable, but I will revisit that with...

My doctor prescribed the low dose of .25 mg every night. Prior to taking Xanax, the RLS was breaking through every night. It had pretty much ceased to be an occasional occurrence and was regular. I recognize the danger of dependence, but I can't really see much difference between becoming dependent ...

Follow-up on my older post

I wanted to follow up my 8/31/11 posting with a thank you to fraujoolie and ViewsAskew. I know that you are generous with your advice and probably don't hear back from the majority of people you help, so I wanted to share some really positive feedback. As a result of your advice, I purchased and rea...

Thanks, Ann. I'm going to dump the neurologist and go back to my GP. She has no experience with RLS so if she is willing, I want to help her learn. Resources and links to authoritative references will help validate the information I provide. I had hoped that my physician would be guiding this effort...

Thanks to everyone for such helpful information. I've ordered the "Clinical Management of RLS" book. In the meantime, I have a question for ViewsAskew: I looked up Sinamet and briefly, "It may take several weeks to a few months to notice benefit from use because the dose is carefully ...

Deciding when it is time to start doing drug therapy

New to the group but have read a lot. I have had RLS for about 10 years but it is very cyclic. There is always a low-level sensation all night and the twitching wakes me up on and off all night, but generally if I can get to sleep, it doesn't affect my night too much (although my sleep isn't particu...
