Re: Weight - Too Much Of It

Dieting is out for me also. Just does not work. I lose a little weight then go off the deep end! I am on the trail to fitness by exercise. The treadmill everyday for 30 minutes. Plus I got a geeky single speed bike to ride the trails of Indiana. I only my butt didn't hurt so much! My RLS is so bad a...

Re: Iron, leg elevation, and no caffeine after noon.

"The Pot I used to smoke weed as a youth, but it really doesn't interest me anymore. However, in my extensive search for remedies, I found that marijuana worked 100% for eliminating RLS. I'm not much for smoke anymore, and happen to be a pretty good baker. So I made brownies, which were just as...

Weight - Too Much Of It

I am overweight. OK, I have said it. 30 pounds to be exact. My question, and hopefully the start of a discussion: is weight a factor with RLS? I have been overweight for years but recently packed on an extra 7 pounds. I have started using a treadmill I am lucky enough to have in my home. I have also...

Re:

Anyone else use an old-school rubber hot-water bottle? I like it better than a heating pad because there's no wire so I can shove it around with my legs; and the heat feels deeper. It still has a bit of warmth in the morning. This worked for me when the WED was bad. Also - I used those stick on tap...

Re: Oh goodness......now HIVES!!

I think that Randy is suggesting that if the medication is causing it that it means the medication isn't good for you - that it's like a poison in your system. All meds are a sort of "poison" in your system. The trick (in my opinion) is determining the risk/benefit of any given drug. Tram...

Celebrity with RLS

I heard Jon Stewart of The Daily Show remark about his RLS. I don't know if it is an ongoing issue with him or it has resolved.
He would be an over the top hilarious spokesperson! He called it "Jimmy Legs"!!! :)

Re: Why stop a med that is working for your RLS?

The lack of knowledge in the field of medicine astounds me more each day. We look to an "expert" for the information and accept their answers as true fact. Those facts often impact our lives in sometimes unalterable ways. Yet so often their expert opinions reflect a lack of complete infor...

Re: Why stop a med that is working for your RLS?

I can't think of any of us trying to stop a med if it's working unless there is another issue. Maybe a drug holiday? I have tried a drug holiday, I wanted to stop the tramadol, to see if the Lyrica I also took was treating my RLS. The result on the very first night was the worst 5 hours of my life....

Why stop a med that is working for your RLS?

I am sincerely interested in this. I have suffered with RLS, and have found a medication that always works when I take it correctly (Tramadol) However, I have read many posts where the person is trying to "taper off" or "get off meds" when the medication is working. I can't imagi...

Re: What do you think people did with RLS before medications

Polar Bear- It highlights how important it is for us all to have an advocate. Tell someone close to you what you are going through so you have someone to speak up for you if you are not able to communicate. I live in fear of being hospitalized and not having my meds each night to keep the "leg ...

Re: does anyone really know what sets off their symptoms?

I agree with the posters who say to take the meds that work and move on with your life. If I take my prescribed meds of Tramadol each evening I do not get RLS. And I don't have a mild case, it is severe. Walking the floor with horrible pain/sensations in arms and legs for hours. Suicidal thoughts be...

Re: What do you think people did with RLS before medications

My father suffered from RLS for years. I never really understood how much he suffered until I started having the same problems. He was given vicodin for years, and who knows what else. He would go to the doctor and they just patted him on the head and sent him home. When he was 77 he had a stroke, a...

Re: LYRICA??

Badnights; Thanks for the info. For some reason, when I take my meds "out of order" or too late, they won't work at all. I recently took my 8 pm drugs at 5pm by accident. That left the lyrica and ultram that was supposed to be taken at 5pm. I went ahead and took them at 8pm, and they did n...

Re: A heating pad works for me

Heating pads have worked for me when I first get that tingle, I know you all know what I mean. Also, I have a treadmill and I swear by it for RLS when only legs are involved. When I have restless "Limb" syndrome nothing works. I can't grip anything to exercise my arms so I am walking endle...

Re: Antidepressant add-on

I have used Lyrica in addition to anti depressants. I asked my shrink about it for RLS, he said it was also good for depression so I use it along with Lexapro and recently Latuda. I have come to terms with always needing an anti depressant so I don't have a timeline for being off meds. My priority i...
