Re: Cold Turkey vs Slowly Weaning
I disagree with the "tapering off high doses of DA's" theory. While I don't recommend doing it without a narcotic and a doctor's supervision, I can honestly say the 3-4 days of hell a/k/a withdrawal symptoms, were worth how much better I felt once it was out of my system. As bad as it was,...

Re: Neupro
I don't say this to be discouraging, but you are prolonging the inevitable. I tried to taper, I was miserable. I called my doctor, told her I was going to go cold turkey. I chose to rip the bandaid off. It was bad, but I honestly believe the only way to stop augmentation is getting that stuff out of...

Re: Neupro
I tried Neupro. I was using the max dose of 6mg within a week. I can't remember if Neupro is a DA. If it is, I would advise completely getting off the DA's and then trying Neupro. Withdraw is hell and cold turkey is the best way to do it; you will need a narcotic and at least 3 days. If you are majo...

Re: side effects of short term oxycodone
I agree, way too much Mirapex. Withdrawal is hell, but I would do it all over again. Mirapex eventually causes more symptoms than it treats, especially at that dose.

Re: What cold/flu drugs make RLS worse?
Eweforia, No, it's one of my daily medications. I take 25mg at bedtime. I have been taking it for over 15 years. The first time it was prescribed for me was when I got a bad case of poison ivy. I have taken 50mg, but sleep comes shortly thereafter. Ironically enough, it was also prescribed for my do...

Re: What cold/flu drugs make RLS worse?
Hydroxyzene is an antihistamine. It is available by prescription only. It's actually an anxiety med, but it also acts as an antihistamine as far as the drying out. As for decongestants, when I got the worse strain of bronchitis ever, my doc told me to eliminate dairy and caffeine because they are mu...

Re: Getting off mirapex
Hi Views!!!!!! I have been wondering how you guys have been as well. I'm at about 90% controlled and I am so thankful for that. Next to no daytime symptoms or neuropathy and the pain in my arm and neck is completely gone. Ended up getting a pacemaker and was very happy that the nurses on my floor un...

Re: Mirapex Caused Less Sleep For Me
When I took it, I was usually up and ready to go at 3am. The drawback was, I would fall asleep at work or if driving for long periods. It made me afraid to drive. I'm still leery, but it hasn't been an issue in over a year.

Re: Getting off mirapex
I can weigh in on the getting off Mirapex. I was taking 1.5 mg per day and had major augmentation. It took me 4 doctors before I found one who would listen. The "specialists" I tried included a neurologist, 2 GP's and a RLS specialist. The neurologist wanted to keep upping my mirapex, said...

Re: hydrocodone and new prescription laws
My doctor couldn't write Oxycodone or hydrocodone for more than 3 total months. I was referred to a pain management specialist. He put me on hydromorphone 2mg. It didn't help and he didn't believe I should need anything stronger. I had to see him every month and undergo a drug test at every visit. I...

Re: Pramipexole and serious side effects
Incidentally, I don't advise weaning off over months. The withdrawals are pure hell. At the high dose I was on, my GP's original plan was to wean me off over a month with the help of oxycodone. I couldn't handle the weaning withdrawals, so I had a 3 day weekend and just quit. It was rough; but I wou...

Re: Pramipexole and serious side effects
My neurologist didn't think 1.5 mg twice a day was too much either. Thanks to Views and a few others I learned that was way too much and I ditched the neuro for a GP who was willing to take on a challenge.
