Re: Is your DA causing augmentation?

Bronwen, the adenosine approach is still very much a situation of research in progress. Two members of this board have convinced their doctors to let them try it. Both (Holland is one of them) found that they had to experiment just to find the right dose as well as how to adjust their other meds. As...

Re: Is your DA causing augmentation?

Wow is right. Congratulations on educating one more doctor on the proper way to treat RLS. I am so happy that you have one whose ego isn't so big that he can admit that there are still things to learn and that educated patients can be a resource.

Re: Augmentation- Cold Turkey

To expand on Holland's comments about addiction. In a paper on the use of opioids to treat RLS that written by many of the RLS earlier this year. They reported on a Blue Cross study of their patients who were placed on opioids for various reasons. True addiction occurred at a rate of 8 per 1000 pati...

Re: Words!

One of the most interesting meetings during my career was a group of us that were in Australia. We were preparing a report for company management there. The group consisted of 2 Americans, 1 Brit and 4 Aussies. You would have thought that since we were all native English speakers that there wouldn't...

Re: Introducing myself

Jim, you may very well have not misunderstood your doctor's intentions. Due to the issues with opioids, many doctors have become very hesitant when it comes to prescribing opioids for chronic conditions. That is what prompted the experts to write the Mayo Clinic paper. So, your doctor very possibly ...

Re: Is your DA causing augmentation?

Bronwen, if you think that you have methadone in your future, now is the time to have that discussion with your doctor. If methadone is the replacement treatment for after you get off of pramipexole, starting it now will dramatically ease the withdrawal problems you will experience with stopping the...

Re: Introducing myself

Jim, the gabapentin probably isn't going to help very much as you reduce your pramipexole dose. It simply isn't strong enough to counter the reducing level of dopamine. Gabapentin also doesn't help manage the RLS movement issues for everyone. However, it is something that you have to try to find out...

Re: Iron has helped

Slow iron is a mixture of iron sulfate and dicalcium phosphate. In the acid of the stomach, this will produce ferrous phosphate, which is a complexed form of iron. Complexation is a special chemical condition and is important here because the iron needs to remain chemically soluble once it gets into...

Re: Methadone and Gabapentin no longer working well

Deb, glad to hear that things went well in Denver. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about how your appointment would go after singing her praises to you. So, I am glad that she has suggested some new things for you to try. As for email contact with her, I have learned that I need to be patie...

Re: Choosing a dispensary

Finding a dispensary is sort of like finding a good doctor. You simply have to visit one to find out if you like them. The staff at each one that I have visited here in Colorado have been knowledgeable and friendly, but I have to admit that I like one of them better than the others. This is due to t...
