Re: Oxycodone
Not everyone experiences opioid alerting. I take methadone and gabapentin. The methadone causes alerting so I take it at lunchtime and then take the gabapentin at bedtime. By taking methadone at lunch, my alerting symptoms are gone by bedtime.

The earlier podcast was also be Dr Silber and was an introduction to the diagnosis and treatment of RLS. He didn't say anything that anyone on this board doesn't already know, but if you want to hear what he has to say, you can find it at https://mayoclinictalks.podbean.com/e/sleep-medicine-edition-...

Re: Mayo Clinic is talking about WED/RLS on YouTube!
I just watched the presentation. Dr Silber discussed iron's role in the treatment of RLS. The podcast's target audience is doctors and other medical professionals. The thing that I learned is that Mayo has recently found that ferritin test results depend upon the laboratory technique used. There is ...

Re: Methadone on backorder for nearly a month!
In my case, I was in for a bit of a surprise when I went to pick up my methadone yesterday. Although they had it in stock, they made a policy decision that limits minimum time to dispense Sch 2 meds to 29 days even though the DEA allows every 28. I was one day early, so I had to go back again today ...

Re: Codeine
From what I am learning it seems that methadone is the go-to drug prescribed by many physicians. There is nothing all that special about methadone when it comes to treating RLS. The other opioids work just as well if prescribed in equivalent doses. The reasons why methadone is "preferred" are that ...

Re: Methadone on backorder for nearly a month!
I had a chance to talk with my pharmacist this morning while shopping. She checked her computer and said that she had enough methadone to full my prescription later in the week. So the shortage must be regional to California.

Re: Methadone on backorder for nearly a month!
I start my methadone refill process tomorrow. I live in Colorado. I will let you know how it goes. If I remember correctly, the pharmacy can fill my prescription starting on Tuesday.

Re: Methadone on backorder for nearly a month!
Although Suboxone is the current second best opioid for RLS behind methadone, there are a number of other options. We have quite a few members who take oxycondone or oxycontin. The problem with the oxy meds is that they have a four to six hour half life, so you need to take another dose half way thr...

Re: Codeine
I just ran a calculation with a Morphine Equivalents Calculator to see how your dose of 30mg codeine compares with the starting dose of 5mg of methadone (which is the smallest dose available unless you break a pill in half). 30 mg of codeine is 25% of the methadone dose. Codeine is also the weakest ...

Re: Methadone on backorder for nearly a month!
There is a portal on the FDA drug shortage website for the public to report a new shortage. The website is https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/drug-shortages Methadone is not on the FDA shortage list, but it was last updated at the end of March. As for Walgreens and CVS, that is p...
