Re: RLS and ADHD

Thanks for that Wild One! The only thing I know of for sure that can cause permanent damage is the benzos. I know of someone who went off them cold-turkey and ended up with Parkinson's, which never got better. But he was a heavy user (was a dentist and could order them by the bucket-full). I think ...

Re: RLS and ADHD

I've always understood that we are rarely at doses high enough to cause issues with DAs - this is more of an issue with those who take DAs for Parkinsons and at a MUCH higher dose than we do. The specialists routinely suggest cold turkey when a person has augmentation. From the studies I reviewed, ...

Re: RLS and ADHD

Call around and find a psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD and/or ask your primary care doctor who they would prefer. There are many things that appear to be ADHD but actually are something else, so it's important to get an opinion from someone who knows what else to rule out when someone says th...

Re: getting off miraprex

Loratadine is the generic name for Claritin - a second generation antihistame that is supposed to be WED friendly. However, everyone is different. I cannot take Allegra because it keep me from sleeping (not insomnia like WED, I just do not need to sleep). Neither of these drugs is supposed to cross...

Re: Hello!

Seems we've had it both ways. One of our members is working with a young neuro and it's been a great partnership - he values her input. I had great success with a young and older doc - father and son who worked together. They both listened, etc. In terms of specialists, my experience is that older ...

Re: RLS and ADHD

I have both , myself, or at least, thought I had ADHD as a child, but I think I was misdiagnosed.. I don't really have dramatic attention problems anymore , except those caused by the RLS discomfort , which sadly, is frequent.. (they do say that a majority of people "outgrow" ADHD as their...

Re: Hello!

I think it's so hard to find a doctor. I've done it both ways - bring it up and hope for the best, and call offices to find a doc what gets it. I found that when I called (I had 30 potential doctors), that it did help me weed out the 95% with no chance of helping. But the ones who supposedly "...

Re: Hello!

Let's see if I can remember everything I want to comment on... First, the study on Lyrica just came out. Dr Allen was the main author, IIRC. He ran the study in conjunction with a few other colleagues out of Johns Hopkins. m . Second, Earley really does say that he'll give people infusions with fer...

Re: Hello!

I agree with you about using the alpha-2-delta drugs - to me, they are best for those who experience WED as painful or have an additional pain component. They do not help me much at all. There are quite a few of us here who are not helped by them and I'm a bit surprised by the latest study that sho...

Re: Hello!

RE: Viewaskew Yes, opioids are very stimulating to me, which I found out when I had surgery once, didnt sleep for a long time afterward, and then of course quitting the opioids made the WED worse! It's comforting / affirming (sorry if that's rude) to hear that so many of you have had the same 'stran...

Re: Hello!

rustsmith. Thank you for the post! Very interesting , I guess we really DO have very similar disease courses! Back when I first read about RLS (before I had it, while the adhd meds were controlling it), i thought it was only confined to the legs and at nighttime, but , definitely quickly found out I...

Curious

Does anyone else here have much in the way of daytime symptoms? I know that symptoms occurring "earlier" in the day are indicative of augmentation .. but I am not sure if I am augmenting or just having severe RLS/WED... Prior to treatment, when it was getting really bad.. I was having symp...

Re: Hello!

Thank you all very much for your kind words and welcome! I will respond in order of posts w/ just some thoughts. Rustsmith -- please tell me the name of that book! Also, I don't know if the long term amphetamine use resulted in dopaminergic nerve damage .. there is no real world evidence that really...

Hello!

Hello all, I just joined and figured I would give a little bit of background on myself and what I feel may be a unique perspective on WED/RLS (but then again, I suspect probably all of us have a unique take on it).. Background: I've been reading these forums on and off for a few years, but never had...
