Re: Mind won't relax/can't sleep
Ok here is the short term sleep results of me using the following drugs: Melatonin 10 mg, Valerian Root 500 mg, L-Theanine 200 mg. Taken at 9 P.M. One each. I started taking Melatonin a few days ago. Even though it has no effect on my WED (no surprise), it does help me get sleepy. However, vitamin ...

Re: Monitoring PLMS with a smartphone
I am sure that all of us would be very interested to know just what goes on whlle we are sleeping. Well, I've cobbled together a simple android application doing just that. It will track movements and detect PLMS. It is highly experimental and I'm planning on adding some more features in the future...

Re: Transitioning to new meds
I have taken Requip or ropinerol since 2006 and was on 2mg 4x a day for 8mg a day. Also on gabapentin at 300 x 3 a day. I believe the side effects from the ropinerol piled up and resulted in hallucinations, swollen feet and ankles, weight gain of about 40 pounds increased heart rate and blood press...

Re: I'm back! ..... and scared
I was diagnosed, this was my treatment, I've tried this and this and this, this treatment worked great for years and then this doctor came in and screwed it all up. Then acted like I was an addict when I went out of my way to try non-narcotic treatments again and they did not work. Some doctors ten...

Re: Theories about WED
I have nothing to add, but want to thank all of you contributing to this thread. I am WAY in over my head, and will probably have to read this a dozen times more to BEGIN to follow it, but just wanted to say I appreciate your time and thoughts. With that said, I did gather that buying a bottle of B...

Re: Theories about WED
I'm new to RLS and this discussion board and see that Fruno...(the most recent post) says that "most of us" experience the urge to move...so there are RLS sufferers who have the leg discomfort without the urge to move? I ask because I don't and am trying to figure out if I actually have R...

Re: Theories about WED
Yes, ECT can have severe side effects, and I guess the way they used it 50 years ago was a little like medieval age doctors used to treat their patients (bleeding and such): They did the same to everybody regardless of the symptoms, and the therapy often did more damage than good. But I'm told we're...

Wanted: "Brain chemistry for dummies"
Hi again, I wondered if there was a book out there that would explain the biochemical reactions in our brain (like, the cycles resulting in dopamine, GABA and melatonin production). Is there anything that one could simply order on amazon? It pains me that I have no reference to look up the things I'...

Re: Theories about WED
OK, no thoughts about that? I was wondering if ECT may help the more extreme cases among us, even if it is clearly something that shouldn't be prescribed lightly. OK, next day, next question. From taking vitamin B12 in high doses I clearly got a boost in my brain dopamine production, since I not onl...

Re: Podcast about RLS and Inflammation
Is it his guy? http://www.rlcure.com/ His summary about things influencing dopamine levels http://www.rlcure.com/dopamine.html is comprehensive and well worth a read (especially since it is hard to find with google, so many of you will have missed that). OTOH, I fail to see the evidence about inflam...

Re: Theories about WED
Well, one question at a time Question of the day (TM): Electroconvulsive therapy is suspected to increase neurotransmitter production, including dopamine and seratonine. Is there a relation to WED? Is our irresistable urge to move somehow related to the artificial cramps (or epileptic seizures) indu...

Re: Theories about WED
We talked about that study a month or so ago when we first saw it. It just adds more confusion, if you ask me. There are just so many variables. Maybe if you spend a lot of time looking at each of them, you might find a pattern. I have missed this one - so much to read up. However, with that said, ...

Re: Protein supplements/Artificial sweeteners
I have tried Tyrosine capsules too, doesn't work for me either. There are various protein shakes out there that contain a mix of amino acids, however, most contain artificial sweeteners and aromas. A few are pure protein powder, without any sweeteners or other supplements - just google "protein...

Co-enzyme Q10
I heard a recommendation that Co-enzyme Q10 may help some RLS patients. The search function returned only few results - has anybody tried it? Did it do something?

Re: Theories about WED
Here is one thing my doctor told me about. It might shed some light on this. "Peripheral hypoxia in restless legs syndrome (Willis-Ekbom disease)." Salminen, Rimpilä, Polo, appeared in "Neurology" this may. Restless Legs Syndrome: New Evidence of Peripheral Mechanism http://www.m...
