Re: Theories about WED
I also have not been able to identify anything that triggers my WED. Same here. There isn't a thing that will trigger symptoms reliably, and I found no correlation with specific food/beverages. But I've just recently started experimenting systematically (and making notes of what I eat and the inten...

Re: Theories about WED
I guess we share the same thoughts Yes, the gaba/glutamate cycle might be affected too. Do you have the full text of the study? I came to a different conclusion reading the abstract: The connection explains why WED patients do not experience that much daytime sleepiness. I'm not sure how to read the...

Re: Theories about WED
I had not seen it, but it seems to not only be well thought out, but also addresses issues such as the different "types" of WED that are seen and the various feedback systems that exist in the body that try to keep things in "balance". It also may explain why things like alcohol...

Theories about WED
I wonder if there is any collection of theories on the WED "mechanics". We know that multiple things can cause WED, and that it is somehow related to dopamine levels, but that's it. I have read a lot about WED, but never found a convincing theory on the whole thing. Most importantly: Why d...

Setting up a Wiki?
Hi, I wonder if it would be a good addition to the forum if we hade a RLS wiki somewhere. A forum works very well for some purposes, especially discussing specific questions. However, a Wiki is better suited to assemble information and keep it updated (like the "Compilation of what's worked&quo...

Re: Protein supplements/Artificial sweeteners
I take amino acids every day and find they help my WED. From what I could ascertain, they increase the amount of dopamine in my system. I actually found that they help my cognitive functioning significantly enough that I really missed the effect when I stopped taking them - I felt foggy-headed. Add...

Re: Clonazepam
I just tried Clonazepam (up to 1mg/evening), additional to Tilidin (opioid). After two weeks the WED symptoms were worse than before, so we stopped the Clonazepam. It did knock me out to some degree, but so did Sifrol when I was still taking it.

Re: Adding Lyrica?
I've tried lyrica and it gave some relief. Lyrica was designed as "faster acting Gabapentin", so I expect they work pretty similar - although Lyrica is used to treat anxiety. I did put on some weight under Gabapentin and Lyrica (maybe 5-7 pounds in 3 months), but I did develop depressions ...

Re: Protein supplements/Artificial sweeteners
I will echo the others in that I avoid all artificial sweeteners, especially Nutrasweet (aspartame) and Splenda (sucralose). I don't avoid saccharine but rarely consume it as it's not used much anymore. I take amino acids every day and find they help my WED. From what I could ascertain, they increa...

Re: Monitoring PLMS with a smartphone
We need a programming nerd with WED/RLS, or who has a friend with WED/RLS, and then there will be an app. You're right, it should be straightforward. You could do what I did - check out a few of the apps that promise to measure sleep cycles (they must already detect motion), write to them and reque...

Re: Omeprazole and WED
Even though I said that, I think it's smart to see if you can stop the omeprazole for awhile, increase the iron, and see what happens. You may find that low iron is the problem. I can't remember....do you know both your serum ferritin and your hemoglobin levels? Yes. Ferritin was checked twice in t...

Re: Omeprazole and WED
I was never aware of a possible connection, and several of my neurologists know (or should know) that I take Omeprazole. I checked it out: I first took Omeprazole roughly two months before my wife observed my PLMS for the first time ever, and before I developed any WED symptoms. I've been taking it ...

Omeprazole and WED
Hi, just another thought, as a thousand questions seem to run through my mind (lots of sleepless nights, and time to think): I'm been taking Omeprazole for a number of years, and in fact I think I started taking it a couple of years before my WED symptoms started. Now, I've read in an old thread tha...

Monitoring PLMS with a smartphone
Hi, I think I found a reference to this somewhere on the board, but the search function turned up nothing. Is it possible to monitor PLMS with a smartphone attached to a leg? The sensors of a modern smartphone should be easily precise enough to pick this up. I tried "Sleep as android", but...

Re: Augmented on Pramipexole
Where have you heard that augmentation is not reversible? I've not seen that - here in the US, I've always seen the opposite: that after you stop the offending substance, the symptoms will return to prior levels. In my time here - I guess close to ten years - I can only remember 4 or 5 people who b...
