Re: Pregablin or Gabapentin Making RLS Worse

Has anyone ever heard or experienced worsening of symptoms using these drugs? I got "restless arms" when I took on Gabapentin. Previously the symptoms started in my legs and then were all over my body, but then my legs were perfectly calm while my arms experienced all the symptoms. Really weird. Bu...

Re: What's the deal with magnesium?

From what I've read, too much magnesium will cause only very mild symptoms (diarrhea, mostly). Kidneys will get rid of excess magnesium easily. This may change if you have kidney failure or eat magnesium supplements like candy, of course :) I believe for the vast majority of people it's safe to ramp...

Re: What's the deal with magnesium?

Since I'm awake at 2:30am with nothing better to do, I may as well ask something that's been driving me crazy lately. Whenever I mention my problems with RLS to someone who doesn't know anything about RLS, they tell me, "You probably need more magnesium." Even when I go so far as to explain that I'...

Re: Pramipexole withdrawal

I am also taking 600mg of gabapentin and am concerned about the sedative effect at night when legs are bad. Should I stop that as well? I'm late here, but I don't think anyone answered you on this. The gabapentin shouldn't be a problem, not like an actual hypnotic would be. The gabapentin might be ...

Re: Pramipexole withdrawal

To all those brave souls that have gone before me withdrawing from pramipexole following augmentation I am seeking advice. My doctor wants me to taper off. 5mg that I am currently taking and I am wondering what is the most effective schedule. I am also taking 600mg of gabapentin and am concerned ab...

Re: Chromium

I'm not sure if it will be the solution to all my troubles, but I'll add some chromium to my supplement mix for a few weeks and we'll see if it does something. Has anyone seen improvement with chromium? After a week I can say it's not a wonder drug, but it does have one rather interesting effect on...

Re: Another year of relief (Low-oxalate diet)

thank you for all the info on a low-oxalate diet! after 2 months on it my rls is improved though not completely gone. I realized the applesauce I was eating had vit c added! so I got some yesterday without it. What is the correlation with vitamin C and the low oxalate diet? I have found fairly cont...

Re: Location of RLS Symptoms Changing

I don't see a reason here for the symptoms to be restricted to any particular place, unless there is some reason why oxalate dumping /breakdown might be spatially restricted? I know you're just speculating & learning as you go, but might you have any idea why oxalates would get dumped in the legs a...

Re: Location of RLS Symptoms Changing

As my RLS is from oxalates, symptoms occur when oxalates are broken down though exercise or general oxalate dumping. I have nerve and the corresponding muscle trigger points. It seems the oxalate leaves the nerves and makes them ‘unhappy’ and they activate the corresponding muscles, which then crea...

Chromium

Since this hasn't been discussed in a long time... I recently got a recommendation from a patient that claimed a chromium supplement fixed all her (severe) RLS issues. I dug around a little, and found next to nothing on this. One doctor states on his webpage that he routinely measures chromium level...

Re: Sleep, microbiome, high blood pressure

Ben Bikman has published a very good book on insulin resistance this year ("why we get sick"). Highly recommended. He writes basically that it's a vicious circuit, with inflammation causing IR and IR causing inflammation. (Similar with obesity.) IR is thought to be the major cause for high blood pre...

Re: Could it be more than RLS?

There are no widely accepted definitions that allow a clear-cut distinction between disease and syndrome. Look at us, discussing terminology, while we fully agree on what needs to be done ;) I guess you're right. I looked at it from the standpoint of an underlying root cause. But the diagnostic cri...

Re: Could it be more than RLS? Disease vs syndrome. WED vs RLS.

RLS is not a disease, but a syndrome . This is not true, although it does depend on how you define disease and syndrome, which actually is not clear. The reasons given by the RLS Foundation when it decided in 2013 to change its name to the WED Foundation and refer to the disease as Willis-Ekbom dis...

Re: Could it be more than RLS?

A couple months ago I was diagnosed with RLS. But I still have other issues that are not common with RLS like brain fog, dizziness, joint pain, tingling throughout my body, headaches, unable to sleep. The doctor does thinks its just RLS and stress but my gut says it is more. RLS is not a disease, b...
