Re: Hellish night due to not taking my ropinerol

Thanks for your support. I'm not new to RLS (20 or so years) but I'm new to medication except for a brief unsuccessful trial with Sinemet about 10 years ago. I'm finding medication to be a two-edged sword and there are no specialists available to me in New Zealand. This forum (and information on the...

Hellish night due to not taking my ropinerol

My system to make sure I take my medication is to put the bottles on the bathroom sink top in the morning. At around 8pm I fill a cup with water, pick up my jar of ropinerol, take out two tablets and without putting the jar down, swallow them. Then I put the jar on a small table on the other side of...

Re: Graphic: When your brain doesn't sleep

Thanks for the link to the sleep deprived brain graphic. Scientists are making a link between chronic sleep deprivation and dementia. I want to be able to sleep so I don't contribute to my own dementia in the future.

Re: zen meditation

I attended power yoga classes four to five days a week for about four years ten years ago. (I then practiced at home for a few years, now occasionally, mostly in the middle of the night.) Power yoga is vigorous but savasana (corpse pose) at the end nearly drove me up the wall. It's supposed to be re...

Re: Decongestants

I use a nasal spray, Flixonase (Flonase in the USA). I'm too scared to try any of the tablets but the spray works well for me. And for colds I use nose drops at night after some really bad nights with the OTC night cold medicine. I learned the hard way, long before the RLS lists came out.

Re: A patron saint for RLS sufferers

I know RLS doesn't have regard for race, colour, creed etc. To help explain better than I could have off the cuff, I cobbled together a few sentences from various websites. A patron saint is a saint regarded as the special guardian of a person, group, trade, country, etc (eg St Patrick for Ireland o...

A patron saint for RLS sufferers

Last night after my usual unwanted wake-up call around 2:00am, before I could force myself out of bed, I started to think there must be a patron saint for people with WED/RLS. After all, there's one for everything else. At first I thought of Lazarus but even though getting up in the morning after a ...

Re: Open question #4: Why are WED symptoms so erratic?

It's hereditary in my family too. My father was in a deepening coma for the last week of his life and his legs were still moving almost until the end. Siblings and cousins have it, I hope my nieces and nephews escape, but, as you implied, more is being learned about it all the time so maybe medical ...

Re: What has thisDiscussionBoard meant to you?

After joining the foundation a few weeks ago, I just joined the Discussion Board about a week ago and it has offered a lot of moral support. I don't talk about my WED (or any other problem or illness) with friends unless I absolutely have to. For instance, there have been a few times at dinner parti...

Re: Open question #4: Why are WED symptoms so erratic?

WED is a crazy disease. It's almost surreal the way it comes and goes. Mine comes every night after 2-5 hours sleep, usually 3. I'm thrilled if I am still asleep after three hours. Almost anything can trigger it. Right now I have sciatica but hardly even notice it during the day. At night it seems t...

Re: Yoga -- long slow sun salutation a help

I'm sorry your joints are painful, it must make the WED/RLS worse. I trust Yoga Norman, but as with anything found on the internet it pays to be a little skeptical until you have evidence that the information is genuine. About a year ago, at a friend's house, I slept very well on a bad bed with a ba...

It's nice to have grandchildren to help remind you, they will know all about schedules and time.

Re: Symptoms worse by season

Unlike Coke, nothing goes better with WED/RLS. It seems to exacerbate almost any problem, even things that non RLS people wouldn't even notice.

Re: Symptoms worse by season

That's interesting. Ever since menopause my thermostat hasn't worked that well and I overheat easily which causes me to wake up and I often have symptoms when I wake up in the night. I much prefer sleeping in a cold room but that's not possible most of the year. I'm changing different weights of bla...
