Re: Another RLS sufferer

It's nice to see some new voices on the discussion board. If you have RLS this is the place to be for advice and commiseration.

Re: bandage & socks for RLS

I had a left over pair from surgery about 12 years ago. I put them on before a long flight and had them off, in the seat, while still on the ground.

Re: How long have you had RLS/WED

My father had it and half of my nine siblings have it to one degree or other, one fairly severe. Lots of my cousins (on my father's side) have it too.

Re: How long have you had RLS/WED

I am 69 and have had it for at least 25 years. It really kicked in during menopause. I've been trying to find drugs for about 20 years starting with Sinemet. Doctors seem to have a better understanding now than then.

Re: Medical Marijuana

Radio New Zealand had an interesting interview with an expat Kiwi living in California who has developed a range of cannabis teas specifically for women (although I don't know why they wouldn't work for men). The interview is 23 minutes long but, I think, worth the listening time. https://www.radion...

Re: bandage & socks for RLS

I find that the very thought of something like flight socks makes me want to run for the hills.

I'm glad an ace bandage works for some people, I'm glad if anything works! But personally, I agree with Polar Bear.

Re: Allaying friends' concerns re: kratom

"The Periodic Table of Intoxicaion" is an interesting short video about addiction. I don't think it is directly related to rls but maybe indirectly.

Shingles is the pits, my husband had it. Everyone who has had chicken pox, make sure you get the vaccination. Zostavax used to be the one but I've heard there is a better vaccination now.

Too far for me too—6,500 miles—but it will be wonderful to hear about it.

Re: Need Sleep

I have painful rls. When I wake up, always with pain, if it is severe and won't go I rub Voltaren gel on my calf. So far that relieves the pain temporarily, long enough to get back to sleep. It does not work preemptively though. The tube says to consult a doctor if using for more than two weeks but ...

Re: Painful RLS

My previous, loved, GP moved but the new one is very promising. After describing a typical night where I have to devote about 10 hours to get 6 hours sleep (if I'm lucky) she has referred me to a pain clinic. When I said some people with severe rls take methadone, instead of saying "no way"...

107° F is horrible! I lived in Moscow Idaho for seven years and it got hot but never that high. On the West Coast of New Zealand the natives think they are dying if it gets to 87° which it rarely does but we'll have to see what next summer has in store for us.

Re: Camping

Just had to google the Blackball Hilton. It looks very unique and a fun stay. It is definitely unique and fun. Cliff and I stayed there when a sister was visiting from the states in about 1992 right after it had opened. We took the train from Christchurch in winter and needed the hotties (hot water...

Re: Camping

hot water bottle That's really funny. Since I now live in New Zealand I am familiar with hot water bottles but I don't think most Americans are. There's even a hotel in a very small township called "Formerly the Blackball Hilton" that puts hot water bottles in guests' beds. The name comes...
