Re: Histamine/Tyramine Food Triggers
Beth, I don’t know about gut bugs yet because I haven’t gotten to tackling that just yet in this Histamine Intolerance journey. But I had a thought and am wondering if you’ve tried a trial low histamine diet yourself? You mentioned that when you removed gluten and dairy (btw, known high histamine fo...

Re: Histamine response to capsules
I recently discovered that the capsules holding my medications, and some supplements, were adding to my Histamine Intolerance and subsequent nighttime symptoms. Before the discovery, I decided to lower my Gabapentin dosage from 400mg down to whatever I could tolerate. I have been having success taki...

Re: Pregablin or Gabapentin Making RLS Worse
An unlikely consideration but one I was just going to report elsewhere here on the board is the material of the capsules. Perhaps you have an intolerance to something in the capsule itself? I recently discovered that all my prescription medications are in gelatin capsules, and I have Histamine Intol...

Re: DAO (Daosin, Daofood etc)
Hi obliv1, I’m in the USA and I haven’t met a doctor yet (and I’ve seen so many) that understands Histamine Intolerance (HIT). I’ve asked so many of them why I was having worse sleep (worse RLS, hyper awareness of PLMs, panic attacks) after consuming mushrooms or vinegar and no one had an answer. Th...

Re: Must I have a sleep study done?
SleepyBhamster, I have chronic anxiety and when I was told I had to have a sleep study I couldn’t stop ruminating about it either. It’s one of the most unnatural procedures I’ve ever encountered. And the report told my doctor exactly what I had been telling my doctor. I would like to think doctors b...

Re: Citric Acid
Beth, yes, manufactured citric acid. Homemade lemonade would still likely be a problem for people with Histamine Intolerance as the common advice is to absolutely avoid all citrus. From my research, I’ve seen some people are able to tolerate small amounts of lemon juice such as a light squeeze, or h...

Re: Citric Acid
Regarding Histamine Intolerance...Citric Acid also wrecks havoc with mast cells in the body. Citric Acid is usually made from mold that’s often grown on corn. They say that the aspergillus is filtered out but I know from my own and other’s experience with Histamine Intolerance that this isn’t the ca...

New RLS Devices...
I learned of two new RLS devices while Googling, and after a search here I don’t see anybody talking about them so I thought I’d post what I found. 1) This device by Relegs (a Dutch company) appears to be available only in the Netherlands. The second link can be translated into English by your compu...

Re: Clonazepam and Doctors
Sleeper, if you do decide to reduce your usual Clonazepam dosage, consider using the Benzo reduction program created by a UK doctor. I forget her name but she’s mentioned here if you do a search. My mother was on Clonazepam and just like you started having difficulty getting her prescription filled....

Re: DAO (Daosin, Daofood etc)
obliv1, me too! How did you figure it out for yourself? Besides DAO supplements, what else do you do to lower your histamine? The DAO supps are so expensive but my doctor has an online dispensary that sells it for a lower price than you’ll find on Amazon ($64.56 at Fullscript.com vs. $75.95 at Amazo...

Re: Why Does Alcohol Help Me?
thesleepless1, I have PLMD, like you. I’ve found that my symptoms scale with my anxiety and have recently been experimenting around Gaba. Like QyX mentioned, you may be working on your gaba receptors. “Alcohol mimics gamma-aminobutyric acic (GABA), the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain....

Re: Why Does Alcohol Help Me?
thesleepless1, this is a very unscientific response compared to the other thoughtful responses you’ve received so far...I’m curious, do you think that anxiety contributes to your awareness of your PLMD? In my case it truly does. I’ve spent years trying to lessen my chronic anxiety through different ...

Re: 54 years Dealing with RLS
Robin, I would add to the diet suggestions to consider whether you have a sensitivity to histamine. It’s a growing diagnosis. You can eat only real, fresh food and still get sick from it if you have histamine sensitivity. I noticed it in myself after eating a salad and my legs went even crazier that...

Re: Sleep Bruxism (Grinding teeth while sleeping)
Bev, my neurologist believes that bruxism causes a fight-or-flight response during sleep which causes various sleep problems. As the person bites down, the head leans forward causing a pressure on the spine that signals the brain to fight-or-flight. He treats this first with OTC supplements that low...

Re: CVS Won’t Ship Gabapentin to House
That’s nuts...I literally just received my Gabapentin mailed from my local CVS. Even worse, my anxious cat just got his own Gabapentin prescription. Sorry you’re going through this. Maybe it’s a state law? If you haven’t already solved this, maybe call up your local pharmacies and see if they’re wil...
