Re: Melatonin

Dear Betty, I would think it would be wise to wean given a dose of 4mg. You might be pleasantly surprised initially at how little impact reducing the dose has. I got quite low before symptoms worsened appreciably. It was the calm before the storm however because it was torture from then on. I was su...

Re: New to group.

Gayle, if you are really desperate it might be worth trying Kratom. It’s not legal everywhere but it can be ordered by post and is usually effective against rls - I find it more effective (and also easier to discontinue) than prescription opioids. Also, cannabis, taken as an edible can be very effec...

Re: Kratom and insomnia

I really sympathise with your husband. Opioid induced insomnia was a real problem for me when I was using oxycontin to treat my legs and it was definitely dose sensitive - ie the more opioid I took the worse the insomnia. Unfortunately, I have found that kratom can also induce insomnia. Some reports...

Re: Personal Update

It’s great to read of people who manage to control the dopamine agonist rather than it controlling them. You give me hope that I may manage to keep a low dose of pramipexole as part of my armory for some time to come. Thank you for posting.

Re: RLS and Alcohol remedies....?

I find wine far worse than spirits. My legs will tolerate whiskey or two without playing up but wine gets them going every time. I find it difficult enough to control them at the best of times - haven’t come across a neutralising agent for the effects of wine ... except time.

Re: An old member just returning

Sorry, just saw that Steve already mentioned the a2d drugs. My bad! They seem sometimes to be slightly less effective for those who have been through dopamine agonist induced augmentation - but may be worth a try ...

Re: An old member just returning

The other potential treatment option is an alpha2delta ligand such as pregabalin or gabapentin. I know these are sometimes prescribed for back pain so maybe they would help with nerve damage also? I don’t know enough about them to say but they do work well for some for rls.

Re: Published Research - General Sleep and RLS (WED)

Interesting that out of 16,600+ men the highest incidence of rls was 5%. I see an estimate of 10% of the population being afflicted with rls often but it does not accord with my anecdotal experience. I would say it is lower than that. I appreciate that more women than men get it but could the differ...

Re: Antipsychotics? Car accedent???

There is some suggestion that the alpha-2-delta ligands work less well for those who have been through augmentation (although they do work for many). They are well worth trying however. I have seen some people report that weight lifting can be helpful for rls and many, many variations of diet recomm...

Re: best iron suppliment to increase ferritin levels?

My GP has offered me iron injections but I asked Dr Buchfuhrer about them and he does not favour them. Can’t remember why but it sounded plausible. A member of a UK forum uses iron patches that she imports from the US and her serum ferritin has increased considerably. PatchMD is the site she buys th...

It’s great that you are so proactive, Steve. I hope the tramadol er affords you some good sleep. It sounds like you could do with it.

Re: Medication causing Apathy?

Steve, have you been taking breaks from the cannabis? I seem to recall you experienced a bad bout a year or two ago which you attributed to prolonged cannabis use. I’m sure you’ve thought of this but thought I’d mention it in case ... I hope you get to the bottom of the problem. Absence of joy - or ...
