Re: Low-Sulfur Diet

Thanks for that, Steve. After I posted, I did a search of the forum and found loads on ketogenic diets, particularly an excellent long and detailed thread by Beth. As expected, results for improved symptoms in severe RLS were patchy (your assertion that 'it certainly did not hurt' probably best cove...

Re: Low-Sulfur Diet

Yawny, I love hearing about helpful dietary regimes. I seem to recall reading a study at Johns Hopkins that found raised levels of glutamate in RLS sufferers. My understanding is that they surmise this may be responsible for the insomnia dimension to RLS (independent of the more obvious sleep disrup...

Re: Lumbar exercise is by far the best tratment for me

Thanks for this. There was a post from someone about 6 months ago recommending exercises which I think target the same muscle group. I sometimes use them with some success.

Re: Insomnia Research Findings

Genes can be so cruel. I inherited my father's ability to fall asleep anywhere, any time. Unfortunately, from my mother I got RLS - with a strong insomnia dimension. It's an unfortunate combination.

Actually it was Rustsmith who helpfully shows that RLS symptoms do fall within the definition of 'pain' in another thread.

Re: Med resistant RLS

Actually the suggestion of seeking a referral to a pain relief clinic is VERY good. I'm not based in the US and don't know the ins and outs of the latest regulatory restrictions but presumably pain clinics still have power to prescribe opiates. I know not all RLS symptoms fall within the commonly un...

Re: First night of methadone

Hi Leggo, Having tried quite a few different new medications over the past year, many of them from the 'scary' end of the spectrum, I totally relate to your anxieties. I was surprised at just how anxious I felt every time I was trying something new. I really feel for you. Could you ask a friend, nei...

My Regime - Kratom/Neupro - and Thanks

It is just over a year since I came off 1.5mg per day of mirapexin and suffered the torment of post-augmentation withdrawal. It took months for my severe symptoms to settle down - my sleep consultant was only prepared to prescribe pregabalin which sadly did nothing for my RLS and made me feel even m...

Re: Help Please

Hi MariS, Your situation sounds very difficult and I really feel for you. I would agree with the other observations (and your own) that not all your symptoms are typical of RLS although it can be an idiosyncratic condition and maybe just affecting you slightly differently. In this regard it would be...

Re: one year anniversary without re-augmenting

Congratulations Holland. Your regime has been inspirational for me in working out my own. It is just over a year since I started my post-mirapex journey also. Maybe I will start a thread as have come up with a system which is working reasonably well for me too - though with the same proviso as you t...

Re: Wish I could retire

Polar Bear, Your preparations for your son and his family sound amazing. Can I come and visit too? Seriously, I would imagine they will be delighted just to be with you and happier if you are not too worn out preparing for their visits. I have a similar tendency to prepare very fully for visitors an...

Re: Wish I could retire

Hi Leggo, I am supposed to be starting back to work in October and am very anxious about how I will cope - your description of how you feel is exactly how I imagine it is going to be. Oh dear! As to being 'drug positive', I can sadly also relate to the feeling of despondency that that induces. I was...

Re: Another year of relief

Great news that the low oxalate diet continues to work for you. Your thread is very interesting and I find it hard to believe that a year has passed since I first read it. In that time I have often wondered if it was still working for you. I have formed the intention to follow a low oxalate diet on ...

Re: Medical Marijuana

I would certainly not be growing mmj if I could buy it at the store. How I wish I could buy it at the store. I agree with your policy regarding growing produce, Steve. The two common products I think really reward the effort of growing are tomatoes and potatoes. I find the potatoes I grow myself are...

Re: Medical Marijuana

Will be interested to hear of the progress of your tomatoes, Steve. I never had much success with raising tomatoes from seed. I was thinking if the mmj doesn't work out I now feel I have sufficient expertise to have another go with tomatoes. The weather is poor here and I am anxiously watching my lo...
