Does methodone make RLS worse?

Hi once again, I had an long awaited appointment at Columbia hospital in NY because I was hoping to find a provider closer to where I live to replace going 300 miles to John Hopkins for my methodone and I wanted to find a doctor who would be willing to let me go off to it for intervals (John Hopkins...

Re: when did pharmacist become judge and jury

Sorry for the delay in response. I have not slept more than 4 hours a night in the last 5 nights. I am so out of it I can barely walk. The info from the Mayo Clinic is great! I had found the Steve Ariens blog on my own a few days ago and I am in the process of filing a complaint against this pharmac...

Re: when did pharmacist become judge and jury

I had to move my methadone prescriptions from Walgreens to Express Scripts because of issues exactly like what you experienced, including insurance. Express Scripts hasn't questioned my prescriptions, but it is a MAJOR hassle since it takes a week for the mail to get the paper to them, they take 10...

when did pharmacist become judge and jury

I was put on 5 mg of methadone 3 years ago by a doctor at John Hopkins. It has been a miracle for me however the stigma of being on this drug is HUGE. I have been assumed to be a drug addict by so called medical professional so many times I can’t count. But I’ve held my head up and done what I had t...

Re: Finding a doctor who can prescribe Opiates

I did get an appointment with a doctor at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC but they can't see me until 10/29 and they wouldn't tell me if they perscrible opiates or not. Said I had to come for a consult to find out.

Re: Finding a doctor who can prescribe Opiates

Thank you Ann. Unfortunately, moving is not an option for me since I am a single mother of an autistic young man and a daughter who also has significant issues and is no where near able to support herself. I am trying to get my son placed in group housing but it is a long and difficult process, even...

Finding a doctor who can prescribe Opiates

Hi, I have been traveling over 300 miles to Baltimore for the past 3 years to receive treatment at John Hopkins. This was supposedly one to the 6 best centers for RLS treatment in the country. When I was first seen there, I was told I needed to go on Methadone due to the severity of my RLS. I was re...

Re: New here...PLMD...struggling

I'm new here as well, but I also suffer from extreme PLM which have gotten to the point of as often as 3x/minute. You have had the some of the same people respond to you that I have had - are these guys/ladies the best or what? For what it is worth, I have found gabapentin to be a very helpful adjuc...

Re: Started Methadone

Debbluebird, Thank you for your response. It sounds like Steve, you also, have suffered horribly with this thing. I tell people that sometimes I feel like Linda blair! Were you ever able to work again? I have so much going on with my health right now, I can't imagine even looking for a job much less...

Re: Started Methadone

Steve, Wow, I am so sorry you went through that and also grateful that you stuck around!!! I too was getting to the point of suicide this summer. This monster pushes us right to the edge of that cliff doesn't he? Anyway, I also am in a much better place now. I take it you are in a state where you ca...

Re: Started Methadone

Thanks Ann & Steve, Thanks for your feedback! I am learning so much here. I guess I will stick with the 5mg for now and deal with the bad nights. I wake up pretty much every night with "the jerks" but mostly I am able to get back to sleep. It's just that intial falling to sleep that is...

Started Methadone

Hi, I’ve been meaning to write for many weeks now, but it just feels like I am on a roller coaster that I can’t seem to get off. In the past 2 months I have been put on continued disability due to the severity of the RLS/PLMS, lost my job due to this (and I am a single mom with 2 kids with disabilit...

Re: Hi, new here

To Steve and anyone else who has managed to get treated with opiods, It seems to be the opinion of many if not all of you that I am at the point where I need opiates to control the monster? NOW the question, how the heck to you find a doctor to prescrible them? I went to for a 3rd opinion today and ...
