Research into brain iron regulation in RLS seems to drop off a cliff in mid 2010’s. Any insight on what happened?
Did they think it was a dead-end?
Rustsmith - you are probably the only one reading this. Any insight?

Re: Give Me More Iron
Thank you rustsmith. After further research, I’m finding that this is actually not the case and my initial thesis was very much incorrect. Although some people could respond to iron for longer, it’s probably very small subset of people.

Give Me More Iron
Why don’t they give additional iron to non-responders? There doesn’t seem to be any scientific rationale as to why a second dose of iron isn’t given, or a third. Based on my understanding, it’s due to safety concerns which are incomplete and outdated. We really don’t understand the boundaries of ...

Re: Opioid Tolerance
I developed augmentation in another part of my brain. I.e, The pathological presentation of augmentation occurred in another part of my brain. It presented as a constant hyperarousal which prevents me from sleeping. My akathisia was entirely controlled, but I could not sleep. It was not “alerting ...

I figured out what caused this for me so I will update this post in case anyone else experiences this.

I’ve read several accounts online of people developing tolerance to this drug over time. Not complete loss of efficacy but some loss. Please be aware of this going into it. Start slow and use breaks.

Re: Abilify
It definitely works for RLS, but there is a ceiling on how much it increases dopamine. I can’t opine on whether or not it causes augmentations, but the MOA very much leads me to believe it doesn’t cause augmentation. It’s not prescribed for RLS because it’s a dirty drug, it’s not fully understood ...

Re: opioids-induced RLS augmentation
It’s not unheard of, it’s just not documented well in the scientific literature. I augmented on opioids as have a few others… I don’t think augmentation is the right word for these cases, it’s better defined as building tolerance which “shouldn’t happen”. Men with early onset RLS seem to have the ...

Re: Buprenorphine, the good, bad and ugly
Buprenoprhine can cause insomnia. If that happens try taking it earlier in the day. And, give it 2-4 weeks to wear off.

Re: Buprenorphine, the good, bad and ugly
I have a new pain Doctor. I've had her less than a year. She never asked me about my history. She just took over from the previous doctor I had started with since moving to Albuquerque. The first injection she did was in the right spot, last summer.
I had sent her a note that my RLS had returned ...

Re: Abilify
So, you are combining it with opioids? It’s additive effect is helping your sleep? If so, there are some papers supporting the use of Abilify with opioids to mitigate some of the adverse dopamine effects.

Re: Using tDCS Alternating Current to Stop Symptoms
Unfortunately, I’m having to use similar techniques because the medications don’t work for me anymore. After putting in the effort, it is more effective than I expected.
