Re: SIBO - 4 facts from a dietician

Seems a sensible article, for once. She says no diet will control symptoms but can help manage them while the SIBO is being treated, and the low-FODMAP one is the best "bang for your buck" (highest ratio of effectiveness to restrictiveness). I mocked it at the time. but the naturopathic t...

New Drugs In Development

Hello - In the most recent California RLS support group, the following information was discussed: “At 2:40 PM, Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer, the group’s medical advisor, shared information regarding a new drug protocol for treating RLS, as well as two new nonpharmaceutical devices that are currently in clini...

Re: Methadone adjustment; changing to oxycodone

QYX - how is the quality of your sleep on opioids? This study http://jcsm.aasm.org/articles/030106.pdf pretty clearly demonstrates they reduce slow wave sleep. I’m so fascinated that a lot of other people here get great sleep on opioids. I’m wondering if it is just good sleep as compared to RLS slee...

Re: The Battle

In my case my legs lost strength, were prone to injury, and never seemed to improve. For those of us who have periodic limb movements with our RLS, our legs work all night. There is chronic depletion with no restoration. At some point the well runs dry. I declined to the point I could no longer go ...

Re: The Battle

Steve There are mouse models but not naturally occurring ones - I think that's what Oozz meant?

Yes, that is what I meant. Although, that may be bro science as I’m sure there are quite a number of human pathologies that aren’t found in other animals.

Re: Opiate (Methadone) & Sleep Quality

While I was using methadone for breakthroughs, along with a DA, my sleep was poor and made worse by the methadone. When I switched to methadone alone my sleep improved immediately and dramatically. I was gobsmacked. It was the DAs, as I had always suspected. From my reading, both can cause issues w...

Re: The Battle

Oozz, share away! So often our sharing is of the "need immediate help" kind that we don't get as much of the life story or thoughtful introspection. Nice to have more in the latter categories. I wish, oh I wish, that I would adjust to one of the gaba drugs. They definitely improve my slee...

Re: The Battle

Hey Oozz—thanks for sharing your story. I just want to let you know after I read it, I felt inspired, especially what you wrote about WED making you a stronger and better person. I regularly feel discouraged by its effects on me, but your sharing has caused me to reflect more positively on the impa...

Re: The Battle

It’s not the insomnia is the issue for me, it’s the lack of deep sleep caused by methadone. This study http://jcsm.aasm.org/articles/030106.pdf documents the effects of methadone on sleep architecture. In sum, opioids reduce slow wave sleep significantly. The caveat is that the study is short-term, ...

The Battle

WED has been very tough for me. It’s been about 3 years since I was officially diagnosed. It’s mainly at night, on one region of my back. It’s not intense, but enough to keep me up at night. If others don’t mind I’d like to use this as a space to unload some of my thoughts. I’m working through a lot...

Re: sleep deprivation

The sleep pathways are mostly mediated via the glutamatergic pathways, which the dopamine agonists don't have much effect on. Gabapentin, Lyrica, and Horizant help those. Also sleep seems to get better with THC, kratom, and dipyridamole. Dipyridamole is an adenosine booster and improves both the do...

Re: Opiate (Methadone) & Sleep Quality

An update on this. My sleep quality has rebound. It took about 2.5 weeks, but it seems like I’m acclimated to the drug. I take 5mg around 5PM.

Re: Opiate (Methadone) & Sleep Quality

Yes, take it early. Several of us here experience a form of opioid induced insomnia that we generally refer to as "alerting". Because methadone has a long half life and only needs to be taken once a day, when I experienced this I changed the time that I would take it from bedtime to lunch...

Opiate (Methadone) & Sleep Quality

Hello - Recently started taking 2.5mg of methadone every night. It seems to be very effective for my RLS; however, my sleep quality is not very good. Has anyone else experience this? There is some literature saying that opiates (methadone specifically) reduces deep sleep. Contrastingly, I’ve seen so...
