Re: Can I ask for iron infusions with ferritin at 275?

Thanks for the info. I couldn't really get my rheumatologist to focus on the possibility of iron infusions today (someone told me he has ADHD which I can believe), but at least he's going to see if I can qualify for Benlysta--a newish lupus treatment that is supposed to help fatigue. Since lupus fat...

Can I ask for iron infusions with ferritin at 275?

I haven't had much trouble with RLS since my iron infusions in 2020. But lately I've had a few sleepless nights of with kicking that could possibly be because of harder-than-usual exercise--but I wouldn't have thought it would keep me up all night long. Also, if I'm quite anxious about something, it...

Re: Ferritin testing

I don't know if it's a bad idea to reply to this old thread, but here goes. It's a year later and I haven't had much trouble with RLS since my iron infusions in 2020. But I've had a few nights of kicking that could be more due to harder-than-usual exercise. If I'm really anxious about something, it ...

Re: Ferritin testing

In trying to find it online, is it that I want a complete Iron Panel (IRON, TRANSFERRIN, TIBC and % SATURATION) PLUS Ferritin?

Ferritin testing

I know this is basic information and probably on these boards all over the place, but I would like a quick reminder of what the 3 or 4 components are that doctors want to see in a blood test for RLS. My rheumatologist has had me tested before, but since it's not his specialty, there have been errors...

Re: Could I be done with RLS?

Yes! One reason I hate starting a new exercise regimen--but of course I shouldn't have stopped the old one.

Re: Could I be done with RLS?

I'm sorry I never saw the replies from Badnights and ViewsAskew! Would have helped relieve my mind a great deal. But as I recall, I'm pretty sure my rheumatologist thought it might be possible as well. So now once again, I am seeing him tomorrow and wondering if I should have him test my iron levels...

Could I be done with RLS?

I haven't been on these forums in several months because I have not had any recurrence of RLS symptoms, even though my first and only iron infusions were in Sept/Oct of 2020. I was told here that I should expect to need another round of infusions 6-8 months after the first one. The last doctor I saw...

Re: SO frustrated right now after visit with Dr. Walters

Perhaps I should have clarified that my rheumatologist was open to the letter and other information Dr. B gave me to give him. He sat down and took the time to read everything and is actually now (a year later) quite pleased about his newfound knowledge about RLS. He has thanked me for the education...

Re: SO frustrated right now after visit with Dr. Walters

Dr. B. wrote an email for me that helped me get iron infusions from my rheumatologist. Maybe he doesn't do them himself, but I'm sure he helps people get them.

Re: Anyone go to Vanderbilt for treatment?

MJDK, not sure why you posted this question here. I don't think people will check here for a question about Dr. Rye at Emory. But if you search on his name or mine, you should be able to find my opinion of him from last year. He did want me to get a sleep study but I didn't.

Re: SO frustrated right now after visit with Dr. Walters

Pleased to have gotten a quick response from the doctor--and that he wasn't offended by my refusal to comply with his suggestions. He simply agreed that we could wait until October to do a live visit in his office and test my ferritin levels then. Saw no reason to do anything now since I had no symp...

Re: Is ferritin at 558 something to worry about?

When I told Dr. Walters yesterday that my ferritin was 558 but I got sick with a stomach virus 2 days later, he said we should completely ignore those results. I was quite relieved at that.

Re: SO frustrated right now after visit with Dr. Walters

Followup: Just sent a rather long message to Dr. Walters telling him in effect that the only treatment I am going to accept for the time being is iron. No medications. No sleep studies. No frequent trips up to Nashville. (My husband and I got quite confused when he started talking about our having t...
