Re: methadone vs buprenorphine/naloxone

Sorry about that rambling mish mash of a post. One error: I was only taking 5 mg methadone when I first switched to Butrans. But the short answer is, as far as the depressive symptoms go, i don't see a clear winner yet, but the jury is still out. I have only been on the 10 mcg patch for less than a ...

Re: methadone vs buprenorphine/naloxone

I just came back to this discussion board (have been too dysfunctional to do much of anything) and noticed a request for follow-up. Well, it's a long story, with no answers, and no happy ending. I ended up switching from methadone 10 mg to buprenorphine transdermal patch (Butrans) at 5 mcg/hr every ...

Re: Continuous movement vs spasm

Izzy, I just saw your post (haven't been here for awhile because I have been pretty much nonfunctional) and noticed nobody replied. I too had classic RLS symptoms (sx), although they were in my hands, not my legs, until I augmented on ropinerole. Since then my sensory sx, i.e. URGE to move has been ...

Re: Buprenorphine SL vs transdermal, ? tooth damage

Thanks for responding. Actually I did find an old thread on this forum discussing this phenomenon. His teeth were crumbling and it did turn out to be secondary to the Bupro. He, or someone else on this forum, said the cause was decreased saliva production due to the medication and that using "Bioten...

Re: Buprenorphine SL vs transdermal, ? tooth damage

Hi. just re-posting this to see if anyone has any experience or knowledge about the risk of tooth decay with sublingual buprenorphine. Anyone doing well on it with no problems?

Re: Waking up with a racing heartbeat and trouble falling back asleep

Hi Wesleepbetter. I used to wake up with a racing heart. I am a physician and was thinking of all sorts of cardiac problems it might be but ultimately it turned out to be obstructive sleep apnea. I didn't snore or wake up with a gasp, I woke up with my heart pounding and racing, like someone had jus...

Buprenorphine SL vs transdermal, ? tooth damage

Hi all. My doctor prescribed SL Suboxone tablets when I was doing poorly on methadone. I then read all about the FDA warnings about serious tooth damage from the SL films and tabs so I requested and got the 5 mcg patch instead. It seemed to work pretty well but I found I was having breakthrough RLS ...

The Invisible Kingdom by Meghan O'Rourke. Very good writer describing her experience with an unknown, mysterious debilitating chronic illness trying for years to get help from the US Healthcare System. Just published in 2022 and her description of the current broken US Healthcare system is very cur...

Re: methadone vs buprenorphine/naloxone

Yes, I will push my methadone dose a bit and see what happens. Also, any thoughts on the best time to take it? I believe, Steve, you take yours at noon to avoid alerting. I fall asleep very rapidly but wake too early, so don't know if that is "alerting" or not enough methadone. Thoughts?

methadone vs buprenorphine/naloxone

Hello all. I am in the "fortunate" <snicker> position of being offered either methadone or Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) for my refractory RLS. I have been taking a very low dose of methadone --1/4 of a 5mg tab once daily--for only 3-1/2 weeks and I fall asleep quickly and sleep uninterrupted ab...

Re: Methodone

Hello Donna and others, I have read this thread with great interest since I think I may be heading into the world of long-acting opioids soon. Your doctor sounds amazing. While no one with RLS is "lucky", you are very fortunate to have a doctor who is open-minded and willing to go to bat for you. No...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix

Thanks for the reply, Beth. I do have a spouse, but I might at least be able to work it so when I get up in the middle of the night I only see red light. I currently use a headlamp with a red setting but it is very weak. I did recently start using Luminette 3 glasses (blue-enhanced white light) in t...

Re: Which IV iron preparation? PLEASE

Here's my follow-up so far. I received Feraheme in two 500mg infusions a week apart. I didn't mind going twice because the infusion clinic and my infusion nurse were very nice and they gave me snacks and cranberry juice. Spent the time reading. No side effects. As of 4 weeks after the second infusio...

Re: PLMD

Anyone with edema (even a little bit) should elevate their legs for a while (45 minutes sounds good) before bed so all that fluid can go downhill to your kidneys. Then stand up for a bit and maybe walk around and it goes down to your bladder! And then into the toilet! So less getting up during the n...
