Thanks Ann for pointing me to this message at Yahoo Groups. The person there was writing of taking a "holiday" from oxycontin, a powerful and problematic opiate pain reliever. (Opiates are effective against RLS, including severe RLS I think, but have serious problems and are used as a last resort.) ...

Thanks Nan for letting us know you tried it. How severe were your symptoms? Did you take it while the symptoms were present, or in an an attempt to prevent them starting? Our experience is that 500 mg has some beneficial effect, but usually not enough. I wouldn't expect the effects of tyrosine to la...

Thanks Sara for reporting your experience with tyrosine. The thread which we discussed this on is: * Is there any information about dopamine and nutrition? I am sorry to hear that your attempts with tyrosine seemed to worsen your RLS. I don't know how much you took, when you took it, when the RLS ap...

This "Restless Legs Wellness Oil" at: m is one of 28 such "wellness oils" at: m Some of these have listed ingredients, but the RLS oil doesn't. Does the package say anything about its contents? IF these people have developed a special compound which is dazzlingly effective for even a small percentag...

Hi Corrie, You wrote that you are taking 150 mg of tyrosine. ("L-tyrosine" just means Levo-tyrosine, the normal left-handed version of the molecule, which is the type found in humans etc.) On 29 October, you wrote: > But I started L-tyrosine yesterday 500mg's: did nothing (too early > to say of cour...

Corrie, your RLS problem is far more extensive than my wife's. RLS can be caused by one or more systems operating so marginally that one of a small number of specific things goes wrong - which causes one or more of the specific RLS symptoms, for instance spasms, the urge to move and shake, internal ...

Cornelia, that is terrible that you have RLS all the time!! Reading this and other forums I have seen people write "Not even my pets will sleep with me." and of a woman who wore sneakers when watching TV so that she wouldn't break her toes on the underside of the table. Are your RLS symptoms purely ...

It is widely known that iron deficiency contributes to RLS - for late onset sufferers and obviously for pregnant and lactating women. There is evidence that early onset RLS sufferers have a problem getting enough iron across the Blood-Brain Barrier: * Abnormalities in CSF concentrations of ferritin ...

Thanks Sara for your response. The quantity of Tyrosine which we have found effective in recent nights is relatively low - a single 500mg capsule. Previously we found that 1000mg worked fine too and that 250mg was partially effective. I did some Googling to find the Tyrosine content of foods and see...

I have developed a tentative theory of the underlying mechanism behind RLS, including in the arms and upper body, awake and asleep. I will be writing it up properly on a Web site in the next month or so and will announce it here. Dopamine is produced in the neuron from Dopa via a relatively straight...

Artificial sweeteners

Does anyone find that their symptoms get worse after ingesting the artificial sweetener Aspartame? It is widely known that caffeine makes RLS worse, but I think there is a theoretical reason why just the Aspartame - as found in Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Equal, NutraSweet etc. - would contribute to the ...

Spinal massage - does this work for other people too?

Here is a simple massage technique which I have found really effective at ending RLS symptoms for 5 or more hours, and for preventing it from occurring for long enough to get a good night's sleep. I would really like to hear from people who try this, or use similar techniques. My wife has suffered f...

Relief by inverting the body?

On 4th March, 2004, in the RLS forum at www.wemove.org, Francisco wrote, under the title "MY SUCCESFUL EXPERIENCE IN RLS", describing a technique which prevented his RLS symptoms on 98% of nights. Every night, just before going to bed, he would lie on the floor and raise is legs into the air, with h...

Regarding the so-called book (actually a file download for USD$19.95) by Marie and Jeffrey Godwin: http://www.answerfound.com/restlesslegs.htm I decided to see if there were any other such pages at their site. The homepage does not link to this or any other pages, so I used Google Advanced: http://w...
