General Anesthesia

Is there an RLS algorithm for general anesthesia anywhere? I wish I’d had one yesterday that I could pull out of my pocket and give to my anesthesiologist before surgery. After being reassured by the hospital that they knew all about it, and would give me meds that would help the RLS, I knew I was i...

Ann, thank you for posting these. They are so informative. Even after tons of reading I found tidbits of information that were new to me. Lynne, thanks for doing the video. I wish every doctor would watch it! You've done a great service to the RLS community with your efforts to educate. I for one am...

Hi Lisa, I sent you a PM. For some reason it's still sitting in my outbox. I wanted to let you know there are some actions you can take with the legal system. Since this is a recurring problem, there are several things you might want to do. First consider contacting your local group for victims of h...

Thank you for your replies. I figured if anyone would know about sleep issues you would! And Aiken, those paralysis nightmares sound terrifying. I won't ever take melatonin or Rozerem again. That awake while asleep thing is aweful. I'll look into the meds that are helping you all with your sleep. Th...

Ooops! Nope. I should have said Rozerem. Rozerem is prescription melatonin. Ha! I don't even know what Wellbutrin is, so I don't know why I said that. Maybe I'm not as awake as I thought I was. I'll change my previous post so nobody gets it mixed up. Thanks for catching that. Eliza :- )

Hi Mark, That sleep misperception is interesting. I don’t think that’s my problem though. Mine may even be the opposite. I thought I was sleeping. My sleep study showed why I’m so tired though. I was hooked to the max number of wires and when I should have been in REM, I wasn’t. My brain just wouldn...

Elusive REM sleep

Am I the only one? I have virtually zero REM sleep. The strange thing is that I don't have PLMs, apnea, or anything else that would interfere; other than RLS of course. My sleep doc says that when I appear to be still and asleep, I never really get there. I guess I must be just "dozing" as my grandm...

Hey Lisa, that is unnerving for sure. We’ve had our share of death threats – a new one just last weekend. I think I’ve actually gotten used to it. We just try to be very careful. Most likely it was someone drunk or high on something who was out-of-it and didn’t really know who he was calling. If the...

Nadia, I just checked out your link to the "RLS Patient Sleep Diary." It’s excellent – thank you! There was also another thread about barometric pressure. This would be a great place to record weather and barometric pressure changes too. Any correlations between RLS, sleep and weather would be evide...

Yes - I'm blessed with two docs who really understand RLS. My primary physician has it herself and my neurologist specializes in it. Between the two of them, they've given me what I needed to cut down my squirming and get me some sleep most nights.

Hi Betty,

I've had two docs tell me they wanted my ferritin over 100 because of the RLS. Iron does help me.

My new neurologist seemed surprised and pleased that mine had increased with 3 iron tabs/day. He noted that some people cannot absorb iron and that's why theirs is so low. If that's the case, then somehow I assume the docs address that. So I understood that there could be several causes for low iron...

Hi Zach, Now that your income has gone down, you might be eligible for some benefits. Unemployment might be touchy because of the way WM did it, but if you could be considered “laid off” maybe you would be eligible. Could you get on welfare now and get some medical/dental benefits – and maybe get yo...

JoJo,

I have sensitive spots that trigger severe RLS. One is just below the back of my knee. If I wore boots that touched there I'd have a bad case of RLS. My shoes also make a difference. Some are good, some bad.
