Hi gunnwalker, That sounds horrible. I'm so sorry for her and you. I am no expert on the various drugs that can help, but one thing the doctor should do at the very least is test her ferritin (stored iron). It's possible just taking iron would help her. It can be toxic though so if she takes very mu...

Ha! This is timely - I just got home from the pharmacy with an Allegra Rx for itching (I’m allergic to many foods). My doctor took me off of Clarinex (the Rx version of Claritin). He said Allegra was the only antihistamine that did not enter the neurological system – so it shouldn’t bother RLS. Eliz...

Ha! I tied them onto the soles of my feet - that was good. I tied them around the calves of my legs - YIKES! I had those things yanked off so fast it would make your head spin!

Hi Dee, I do have an abundance of advice on this one. This is a tough age for many girls and parents. For some it is just a stage (which often resolves by the end of their 16th year), but unfortunately for many there can be damage lasting long after. One fairly obvious consequence is that a low GPA ...

Quinine (in tonic water) helps my restlessness in addition to the cramps and buzzing, but only temporarily, and then it quits working. So I save it for when I'm out-and-about and desparate. It's like I get one shot at it in a great while. I'm sure it's not all in my mind. Well, then again . . . Haha...

Hi Holland,

Tonic water works for me too, but only once, then not again for awhile. So I save it for when I'm desparate and have to sit through a meeting or something. If I save it for rare occasions, it's a Godsend. I always keep a bottle of the stuff in my car.

Hi SheTiger, There is such a wealth of information on the various meds on this board. We are so lucky to have all this knowledge right here at our fingertips. Here are a couple easy non-med things you might also want to check/try in addition to the meds, particularly if you have augmentation. The fi...

Hi Ann, Yep - I already got tested for celiac disease and fortunately I don't have that. That was the first thing my new PCP tested me for. Perhaps the stiffness is from all the tensing I have from the RLS nerves then. I don't think I have PLMD. My husband says I don't move much when I'm asleep. I j...

mrj, Whoa – I feel your pain, especially the neck & shoulder arthritis - but perhaps some of my experiences can alleviate some of your concerns. I have had an MRI since having RLS. The test was done because I’d developed significant memory loss and confusion. I think now the brain problems were ...

Thanks from a newbie

Hi All, I’ve only posted a couple of times on this board but I’ve been reading for awhile now. I want to thank everyone on this board for all of the help you’ve given me. My RLS would be so much worse without all of the suggestions I’ve read here. I would have also made bad decisions about meds with...

Thanks Charlene, I was so lucky to catch you on the chat the other night – I highly recommend it to everyone. It’s a great way to get to know each other. This is indeed a wonderful group and everyone’s advice to Craig is a primary example. In fact my RLS would be much worse without all of the sugges...

Hi Craig, I’m so sorry you’re having all of this trouble. I’m new to the discussion board and still rather naïve about RLS and certainly addictions. I do have a suggestion due to my own experiences though. I suggest you have a simple blood test to see if you have low ferritin. I was afraid to take t...
