Re: What is augmentation?

Augmentation is when a DA medication such as mirapex or ropinerole ceases to be effective. The symptoms come earlier in the day and often start to affect the arms, shoulders, other parts of the body. If you go to the Augmentation Forum there is a lot of information to be found. http://bb.rls.org/vie...

Re: Frantic...RLS 24/7

I'm so sorry that you are suffering. Sometimes symptoms do indeed seem worse after surgery. Some types of medications used as part of the anaesthetic can worsen RLS symptoms. Also if there was blood loss this might cause iron levels to drop and this could worsen RLS symptoms On the other hand usuall...

Re: Uh-oh... methadone hassles?

mudslide - I came to post with regard to how much information you present to your doctor. Steve has covered that in his post :) I don't know how long your appointment will be, here in the UK we get 10 minutes. This means that if I want to show/suggest something to my GP I highlight it, and know from...

Re: Uh-oh... methadone hassles?

mudslide - not a good position to be in. To know what works for you and yet a doctor can't use his initiative to treat you. I don't know how the system works in the US regarding requesting certain medications from a new doctor but it does seem that a certain process is started from the very beginnin...

I saw crystalised ginger today in the supermarket. It was amongst the home baking produce, the flour, raisins etc.
It's too strong for me but my husband is very fond of it.

Re: "drug holiday" from Mirapex

mhp - I have my ferritin checked yearly, sometimes more often. If I have reason to have bloods done I would often ask the Dr..... could we do a ferritin serum while we're at it. He is usually quite amenable. Your Dr really should be keeping tabs on your ferritin but it's the same for many of us, we ...

Re: "drug holiday" from Mirapex

If doctor said not to worry about your ferritin being low then he doesn't know a lot about RLS. It is important to your well being to get it higher, up towards 100. At the last test mine was 147 and I am fortunate that this is a natural level and iron supplements are not needed. I have read that the...

Re: What Severe RLS is Like

Eefall I was going to advise putting your phone alarm on, then I came to where you tell Alexa to turn off your alarm. Guess you need to tell Alexa to ignore you - when you tell it to turn off the alarm  A few years back we went through a spell where we had friends and relatives passing within ...

Re: Tramadol

A DA is a Dopamine Agonist such as Requip/Ropinerole or Mirapex. There was a time that this was considered the first line for treating RLS and still is by many doctors. Also over the years what was thought to be a suitable max dose has been reconsidered and is now much less. i.e. Ropinerole from 4mg...

Re: Recent restrictions on length of opioid prescriptions

Having a 'cushion' is a comfort to us, it's our safety net.
How much worse would our quality of life be if there is no safety net and no way to build one.

Re: Recent restrictions on length of opioid prescriptions

Just from an administrative point of view, if a prescription is issued for only one week that is 4 x per month, versus once per month. 4 times the admin. 4 times the cost of doctor writing the script, 4 x pharmacist issuing the script. 4 x Fuel and time for the patient. In your case debs... a 120 mi...

Not so fun times - the positive is that you've exercised 16 miles. I'd rather have peaceful legs and sleep.
