Re: Histamine/Tyramine Food Triggers

Beth -- For me, it's a same night kind of thing. I have severe refractory RLS. My base line, when all is going well, is that: (a) I have no day time symptoms, and (b) I will wake 3 times a night, with relatively minor RLS symptoms that settle fairly quickly. (My base line includes taking oxycodone at...

Re: Gluten Sensitivity and RLS

I’ve been trying to track down what foods cause me problems and I’ve zeroed in on vinegar, sour cream, yogurt, and sourdough. Histamine seems to be the thing connecting them all. I miss mustard and ketchup so much it’s ridiculous. There are just certain foods that they make delicious and now the wh...

Super Foods for RLS

Having spent the last 6 months figuring out my food triggers (histamines), I have now turned by attention to foods that may assist in dampening my RLS symptoms by supplying the building blocks for dopamine production and increased blood flow, and providing a dietary source of iron. Because histamine...

Re: Gluten Sensitivity and RLS

As mentioned in one of my previous threads, foods with histamine will cause my RLS to flare. This makes me sensitive to wheat products -- not because of the gluten, but because of the histamines. Bleached flour is high in histamines because of the bleaching process. Yeast is also high in histamines....

Re: Niacin 100mg.

Whe worse times is when it is in my arm. I actually lay on my arm with my whole body to prevent my arm from flailing around. I also have RLS symptoms in my shoulder and arm. It's difficult to settle, because you can't "walk" your shoulder and arm in the same way you can walk your legs Her...

Re: Niacin 100mg.

Interesting. Here is a link to a journal abstract which suggests that niacin/niacinamide can help to increase dopamine production: https://www.jns-journal.com/article/S0022-510X(14)00677-7/fulltext . I take niacinamide as part of a B50 complex vitamin, but have never tried straight niacin. Foods tha...

Re: Histamine/Tyramine Food Triggers

Often when I am looking for information about various chemical compounds and their effect on the dopamine system, I look to research that is taking place in the field of Parkinson's Disease (PD). Here is an excerpt from the PubMed article, " Histamine: a new immunomodulatory player in the neuro...

Histamine/Tyramine Food Triggers

A number of months ago I started on a journey to figure out my food triggers. After much trial and error, I believe that my food triggers fall largely into the category of foods which are high in histamines/tyramines (or which stimulate the production of histamine, or block the systems that regulate...

Re: Food Triggers and Vascular Dilation

I'd agree that anyone experimenting with food triggers has to examine the consequences of the elimination of any entire food group, and to make necessary adjustments for the same. In my case, I have found that a good probiotic has been more helpful for my gut than the fermented foods I've been eatin...

Re: Relaxis Pad

In terms of other suggestions for your trip, RLS has a circulatory component to it. You'll want to make certain you maintain good blood circulation to the lower limbs when you travel. To this end: 1. Keep the base of the car seat tilted as far forward as possible, and/or use a cushion so that your b...

Re: Relaxis Pad

I have a Relaxis pad, but unfortunately it hasn't been that effective for me. The Relaxis pad puts through an oscillating vibration. You set it so that the vibration sensation is just below the threshold of your active RLS sensation. You then essentially have to learn to "train your brain"...

Re: Food Triggers and Vascular Dilation

More research has led to other interesting connections. A lot of migraine triggers are related to higher levels of tyramine in the particle food. The precursor molecule to tyramine is tyrosine. Tyrosine is a building block in the production of dopamine (m). As a food containing tyrosine ages, bacter...

Re: Extreme compression DIY

In my case, there is a definite relationship between my trigger points and my RLS. When my RLS symptoms are active, if I concentrate on feeling the point of origin for the RLS symptom, it tends to originate within muscles which are overly taut or which are now a trigger point. Not all of my trigger ...

Re: Extreme compression DIY

It sounds to me like you are engaging in a form of trigger point release, which is receiving increasing attention in relation to RLS. See, for example, http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Rest ... Ez4-cnKpeA. I use a variety of devices to achieve a similar result. Cheers!
