My doctor suggested two 8 oz. glasses of tonic water - one right after dinner and one before going to bed. He said the amount of quinine in a glass is about 75% of the amount in quinine tablets. Since quinine tablets are quite expensive (I believe he said $100 a month or more) this is a good cheap w...

Hi Trixie - I've been on Requip (1 mg/day) since July and I'm doing fine. I take it around 8:00 at night - it works best if I take it a few hours before bedtime. I still have occassional bad nights but nothing like before - and on those nights I take an extra .25 or .5 of Requip. I'm also slowly wee...

So far (knock on wood) Requip has worked for me with little or no side effects. Works best when I take it around 8:00 in the evening (1 mg.) so it is well into my system by the time I go to bed. I still have an odd night with problems but that is about once every two weeks or so. So much better than...

Lidoderm Patch anyone?
I saw my neurologist today. I told her things are about the same. Requip seems to work most nights but I still have nights like last night where nothing worked. She said she has several patients using the Lidoderm Patch. She said it is fairly expensive but some have had some luck with it. So, wonder...

Thanks Ann and Rubyslipper, I really do think a lot of it is the meds. I also realized today that I've been on the same level of Hormone Replacement for 4 1/2 years. (I had a Hysterectomy 5 years ago this Tuesday.) While my neurologist didn't prescribe the HRT, she certainly knows about it and I'm g...

I've been searching throughout the forum for this topic. I started taking Requip in August. I've had almost no libido since then. So, while I'm glad to see the topic posted - I was distressed to read Requip can actually increase the libido. Unfortunately, not with me. I'm going to call my doctor on ...

Babydragon0 I went to a Neurologist 4 months ago due to increased RLS problems. After a complete exam she sent me to have blood work done - to test the ferritin iron level. Mine came back at 8. The doctor immediately had me start taking 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate 2 times a day. She wants the level to b...

Meds and weight gain?
I've researched but haven't found weight gain to be a stated side effect of either Requip or Ferrous Sulfate - both of which I started taking in the last few months. I've also gained a lot of weight in the last few months - rapidly. Does anyone have any real life experience with either of these meds...

Jan, you asked why I was going off Klonopin (Clonozepam) and trying Requip if Clonozepam was working. Actually, it wasn't working - and in re-reading my original post I see I didn't explain that. I was on 1 mg for a long time but over the past 6 months have increasingly had to take another .5 or 1mg...

Thanks Josh and Ann, The prescription says one 325g tablet twice a day but I am calling today to discuss - want to know my levels, etc. Josh - thanks so much for the info about antacids. I am a coffee drinker in the morning, so will need to work that timing out but glad to know the preavid won't ent...

Ferrous Sulfate recommended by Dr.
A few weeks ago I posted about going to a Neurologist to discuss my RLS and use of Clonozepam and Requip. She ordered blood work to check my iron levels and my thyroid. I got home today and had a letter from her with a prescription for Ferrous Sulfate 325g. The note said she wants me to start taking...

File this under For What It Is Worth... I saw my doctor yesterday because of what I posted about first in this thread. Clonozepam wasn't working and Requip was causing severe joint pain and insomnia. We talked for quite a while. He debated sending me to a sleep specialist (to rule out sleep apnea or...

RLS and Parkinsons?
I'm wondering if there are any threads that discuss a possible relation between RLS and Parkinsons. Several of my family members have RLS while many of my husbands family have Parkinsons so I've observed the effects in many people. The symptons appear to be so similar it seems as though there has to...

Specialist needed?
I posted a question about Requip. But now I"m beginning to wonder if I need to go to a specialist. I had been on Clonozepam 2 mg per day. Started at .5 and gradually increased over 10 years or so to 2 mg. Some nights that wasn't even working so at my last checkup - end of May - I asked my doctor abo...

I took the plunge and decided to start my Requip sample packs. I started with .25 mg Requip and 1 mg Clonozepam, slowing increasing the Requip and decreasing the other. The past two nights I've taken 1 mg of Requip and no Clonozepam. I've had trouble getting to sleep both nights - wide awake until t...
