Re: Methadone
I haven't experienced those side effects, but methadone can cause a number of issues. My only issue was that it caused my testosterone level to drop to the point where I had to start hormone supplementation. I have been fine since then. At one of the first Foundation patient conferences, ...

That went on for several years until I discovered on my own that the methadone was suppressing my testosterone levels and low free testosterone was causing the depression side effect. I went on hormone replacement therapy three years ago and have ...

... My doctor didn't suspect the methadone and played around with the rest of my meds. I finally discovered (on my own) that all opioids can cause testosterone depression in men (but not women). Once I started hormone replacement therapy, the depression disappeared. The hormone issue is only one ...

... Libido has returned, though the physical aspect often requires some male “vitamin V” as my spouse and I refer to it  but hey I’m 60. Testosterone and serum ferritin levels are normal so my PCP recommends what she tells all her older male patients: good sleep habits, cardio & weight ...

Re: Decades of RLS getting worse
Roy, I had issues with methadone causing depression. As it turns out, methadone can reduce testosterone production in men. I finally figured this out on my own (my doctors were of no help other than suggesting seeing a psychiatrist, who only wanted to give me anti-depressants). ...

Re: Hot flashes with Methadone
Same thing happened to me, and it was directly tied to the methadone lowering testosterone levels. Go get your blood work done and it is likely they'll be able to help you with hormone shots. Hopefully you will stop having to randomly feel like you're in a sauna for no discernible reason.

I have 3 suggestions based upon personal experience with methadone. And one other that I haven't be able to try yet. 1. Have your doctor check your testosterone levels (both total and free). Opioids can cause Low T in men and this can lead to mental issues, such as severe anxiety and depression. ...

Re: Has anyone tried buprenorphine?
If libido is an issue with buprenorphine, I highly recommend going to your PCP and asking to have your free and total testosterone levels checked. The opioids are know for suppressing testosterone production and this is easily fixed with regular injections. I was also having issues ...
