Figuring out what works

Doety, I've only been around here for a few months. Came here looking for someone else using a TENS Unit but it seems I'm going it alone. Mirapex helped me for a while but then became my nightmare. (Did you see my video of what augmentation was like for me?) Taking a med that causes central sleep ap...

Welcome

Sure hope you find some info here that may be useful to you. Seems to be a variety of what works. The way you and some others describe your RLS, it must be more severe than mine was, and I thought I had it bad. I think my PLMD disturbing my sleep is more problematic than my RLS, though at my last sl...

When docs don't help

I've been in the frustrating position to need help but not get it, and it scares me to think of those who for whatever reason cannot research for themselves or find their way to an online support group to glean from the experiences of others. My experiment with using a TENS Unit for my RLS/PLMD so I...

New doctor

How encouraging to read your report on your visit with Dr. Frye! It's good to know there are doctors out there who really "get it". May this be just the beginning of good things for you!

Violent Movements in Sleep

Your comment about the violent movements in your sleep caught my attention. That word is sometimes used by those describing Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. Mine became even more so when I was having augmentation on a dopamine agonist. Did you try different meds then quit or are you on meds now? If ...

TENS Electrode Placement

If TENS is supposed to interfere with signals to the problematic area, it seems reasonable to me (very much a novice with this) placement at the point of the problem might be "too little too late". I had no success with using them on my legs, any I tried just about every inch of my thighs,...

TENS is a lifesaver for me

Got my TENS machone on right now in preparation for bed. It has enabled me to be off meds for the RLS/PLMD. My focus in its use is the PLMD. I'm curious, for those who tried it for RLS, where did you place the electrodes? I spent 2 miserable weeks trying to figure out the best place, and all that's ...

Wearing Out Sheets

BrJoJo,
Were you also diagnosed with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder? It is not unusual for people to have both RLS and PLMD. The last couple months I've been using a TENS Unit every night before bed and it's really helped my legs not be tortured.

How did you use the TENS?

Moonlight, you said the TENS didn't help your RLS. How did you position the electrodes when you tried it? I could find almost no help either from medical professionals or online on exactly how to use the TENS for RLS/PLMD. (My focus is the PLMD.) By miserable trial and error I have for over a month ...

Wee morning hours better

As far as timing, it seems I too get my best sleep as daybreak approaches. don't know if that's because of probable increased REM or why.

Sore legs in morning

Do you have a diagnosis of PLMD as well as RLS? So often I read descriptions of symptoms that sound more like PLMD than RLS (or maybe a combo of both). I have found use of a TENS Unit at night very helpful. Some nights are better than others, but last night I slept about 8 hours with two potty break...

Sorry to hear you are so miserable

I'm just wondering if a TENS Unit might give you enough relief to make things tolerable.

Limb Movements While Awake

Hi. I too deal with RLS and PLMD. My limb movements developed odd behaviors with wild flailing, and for a few years I had movements while awake, but once I went of the higher doses of Mirapex they went back to being just during sleep. After a few years on Requip, they were starting to get worse agai...
