Re: I New Here.

Hi Gale, I'm so sorry you've been dealing with this horrible disease all on your own for so long, but welcome to our message boards! It sounds like you've tried almost everything. I use a plant called kratom to manage my RLS. It is the powdered leaf of the kratom tree, from South East Asia, and avai...

Re: Approaching a Doctor

Hi SonriaCat, Oh, I got so angry reading your post. How can doctors treat a patient like you've been treated? Here's what I know: It is very important, for all kinds of reasons, to change doctors when one treats you like you've been treated. Not just because of the RLS--although that is a critical r...

Re: Where to buy Kratom

If I've dissolved the kratom in orange juice first, it usually takes about twenty minutes, or sometimes less, to work. Good luck.

Re: Where to buy Kratom

One gram of the maeng da from Velvet Soul, for me, is about as effective as two grams of Red Borneo. I tend to use the Red at night, and the maeng da during the day. Hope it works well for you.

Re: Suggestions Needed For Fighting Sleepiness During The Day

Some of the strains of kratom help make you more alert. I use the green strain or maeng da if I'm getting too sleepy in the daytime.

Re: Kratom tolerance question

Oops. Forgot the constipation issue. Sorry. When I take just the Red Vein Borneo I have little or no problem, esp. if I also take two tablets at night of chelated magnesium. When I added in the Maeng Da and green vein, I need to add two tablets of magnesium in the morning as well, and occasionally I...

Re: Kratom tolerance question

I've been taking kratom every day for almost 4 years now. I've never taken any Rx drugs for my RLS, and I think they may affect the way subsequent drugs work--not sure about that. (I did try gabapentim for a very short time but got no relief, only side effects, so stopped). At any rate, I started wi...

Re: Where to buy Kratom

When I first started using kratom I stored some in the freezer. It seemed fine, but I started reading comments on reddit saying that the danger with freezing is that you get ice crystals in the powder. So now I just store as much as I can in the refrigerator, and the rest in the coolest, darkest pla...

I'm sorry about the M.S. along with the RLS. That really sucks. My sister also has both and gets some relief with kratom.

Good luck to you ..

Re: Where to buy Kratom

Yes, I think a quarter or a half tsp. is good to start. I like it dissolved in orange juice better than in capsules, I think because the kratom is not water soluable, but does dissolve in acid, and so dissolves in orange juice. Otherwise it upsets my stomach a little.

Good luck with it!

Re: Where to buy Kratom

I get all of my kratom from velvetsoulnaturals.com. I love their product, and they do take Visa and MC. The only tricky thing is you have to put the kind of kratom you want into the search box (i.e. " maeng da" or "red vein") and then you'll get the list.

Re: Frustrated with opiates

Hi Rim, I have not taken opioids for my RLS but have been taking kratom for almost four years, that functions much like a mild opioid, in that it affects the mu receptors. With kratom I can usually sleep in 2-4 hour blocks of time. I'm guessing that if I folded in a dopamine drug, or Ambien, I could...

Re: RLS, Depression and Anti-depressants

Kratom does take care of my RLS symptoms. From reading Reddit I see that many people also use it as an antidepressant. And I'm pretty sure it lowers blood pressure. So you might consider trying it.

Re: RLS and school

Hi Kcrowley, I don't have a child with RLS but I have been a teacher for 37 years. Getting your daughter on a 504 is an excellent thing to do. It gives you a lot of power. If the school, or the state, starts to make objections--like letting her walk around will throw the timing off, or disrupt the o...

Renewing Membership

I just got my renewal letter for my membership in the RLS Foundation, and I have to say that I am of two minds whether or not to renew. I applaud that the Foundation is sponsoring research (like the one in genetics) and I appreciate that the Foundation has spoken out in podcasts about issues like au...
