Re: Attempting to get off Ropinirole - again

It was a helluva clatter as I went down at 3am and my husband upstairs didn’t hear a thing, didn’t waken. Quite funny because just where the dishwasher is sited is a confined area and there wasn’t much space left when I was couped between it and the facing cupboard. I was like an upended turtle. Not...

Re: Ropinirole. Occasional use post augmentation

I have been off ropinerole for about six months and my symptoms are controlled by Codeine and Lyrica. I get some breakthrough but it’s not dreadful. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if it is RLS or the neuropathy. Walking for a time usually resolved but just not always. I use Kratom to help at thes...

Welcome to Sgibbes

Wednesday 30 September 2020 Welcome today to: Sgibbes - who has had RLS for 20 years now and has recently started seeing a neurologist who has helped tremendously. Now Sgibbes is pregnant and cannot take the medicine. She needs 10-12 hours in bed just to get 8 hours of sleep and wants to know how ot...

Re: Attempting to get off Ropinirole - again

The relative nurse who was head of the respiratory department in my dil's hospital has moved to another hospital. However following a discussion with staff in that department dil was advised to speak to a particular Respiratory Consultant who works there part of the week and until recently was the H...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix

Having seen the posts of Ann, Beth and Xenman it shows that Melatonin is worth trying despite it having a n association with worsened RLS symptoms. Indeed, I may make a trip to the pharmacy today. Bearing in mind to try the lowest dose first. :P

Re: 5 Weeks Until Specialist Visit and Ropinirole Doesn’t Work Anymore

You are now taking 2.75mg Ropinerole. Although officially the guidelines state Ropinerole max daily is 4mg most RLS experts will agree that daily max should be around 1mg so you are well above what we RLS sufferers would consider to be our daily max. It is possible that you are augmenting and it wou...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix

It is my understanding that Melatonin is not generally recommended for use when suffering with RLS.
That RLS could be worsened by melatonin as it can tensify RLS symptoms because it lowers the amount of dopamine in the brain.
However, we all know how perverse some reactions to certain drugs may be.

Re: Vein Clinic Consult

Possibly 20 years ago I had treatment for a varicose vein on one leg. The Consultant told me it would have no affect on my RLS and indeed there was no difference on my RLS after surgery. I am unaware which method of treatment was used.

Re: When Do Symptoms Occur? And, For How Long?

Oozz - My RLS is severe in my legs, usually the right leg. Occasionally in the arms. I've had it for some 30+ years. I take medication spread over the 24 hour day, less in the morning and more in the evening. Also during the night. Without medication I would have constant symptoms. At least that is ...

Re: A few questions about iron tablets

If you defiinitely have IV iron infusions coming up then I don't reckon there's much point in continuing taking oral iron. Especially considering how long it takes to have an effect.

Re: New to this board

At a dose of 4mg ropinerole you would need to wean off them if you ever wanted to stop.
How did you get on last night using just 2mg.

I think to drop from 4mg to 2mg is too big a step. I would go down only .5mg at a time. Splitting your pills if necessary. They are an awkward shape to split.

Re: Medication problem

I very slowly weaned off a high dose of ropinerole (a similar drug to mirapex) by adding Lyrica (a similar drug to gabapentin). I asked my Dr to prescribe the usual daily dose requirement but to have it made up in low dose pills. This gave me the leeway to reduce gently at each step. As the ropinero...

Re: New to this board

As Steve has said, you are taking the maximum recommended daily dose of ropinerole at 4mg. Just to note, many of our esteemed RLS experts would now consider that 1mg daily should be the max daily dose in order to try and avoid augmentation. Coming off Requip/Ropinerole is a challenge but there is a ...
