Re: 2 STUDIES: Yoga produced significant improvement in RLS symptoms and severity

I'm not sure why a larger number of subjects would change anything? Yes. Medicine is full of underpowered studies that were reversed later. That's just the way statistics work. Throw a dice 10 times and you may come up 8 times with head even if it's a fair dice, just by chance. Throw it 10000 times...

Re: 2 STUDIES: Yoga produced significant improvement in RLS symptoms and severity

Both studies had very low numbers (like 13 finished in one study, I think even less in the other). One study excluded patients taking dopamine agonists, one did not report how many of their patients were on DAs. And at least at first glance I couldn't make out how many took opioids, and if the RLS s...

Magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) help me

So, the short version is: I've been using a saturated epsom salt solution (enough salt so that there is a bit salt remaining) and use a sponge to apply this to my body, twice a day, in the morning after showering and in the evening a couple of hours before I go to bed. This has stabilized me in a ti...

Re: Potassium - Supplementation and importance on bodily functions

Usually the kidneys are pretty good at regulating potassium levels. An overdose is bad, just as you can die from too much salt. But the problem is that it is much more likely that someone is potassium deficient, for 2 reasons: (a) Potassium tastes pretty bad, so we eliminated a lot of potassium rich...

Re: My lifelong challenges: is it excess glutamate?

There are contradictory studies to the effect of vitD. Some say supplementation helps, while others say it doesn't. My approach is to grab as much sunlight without blockers as Ican tolerate without getting sunburnt, and I also supplement with D3 and vitamin K2 (K is very important and often not adde...

Re: RLS and Hypertension

Interesting. My bp is usually pretty good (120 to 70), but sometimes fairly low (90:60 in rest phases) and rarely high (150:90 in stress phases). Also I used to have much higher bp before I went to a low carb diet. Is there a cheap but reasonably reliable way to monitor bp in the night? Smart watche...

Re: Has Anyone Tried Dipiridyamole During Augmentation?

Following. I tried to get dipyridamole from 2 different doctors, neither of them was ready to prescribe it because of possible side effects.

Re: St Johns Wort - Antidepressant

I couldn't tolerate sertraline because of various side effects. I had a number of antidepressants over the years, the ones I tolerated (didn't worsen RLS) were trazodone and valdoxan (Agomelatine), but neither did anything for my mood. I guess both helped a bit falling asleep for some time but not l...

Re: Another year of relief (Low-oxalate diet)

Vitamin C does convert to oxalic acid in vitro, but I don't see the connection to the TCA cycle I'm afraid. In real life some oxalate sufferers can tolerate high doses of vitamin C while others can't (case reports from low oxalate groups), and it is unclear why we behave so differently. Same for gly...

Re: Another year of relief (Low-oxalate diet)

I agree that this is one possible pathogenesis. If we assume that an iron deficit is responsible, other possible causes are an iron deficit (accounting for the 50% of sufferers that get relief from an iron IV) and other impairments of iron transport than oxalates. I'm convinced that oxalates aren't ...

Re: Anti-inflammatory medications

This all leads me to wonder if anyone has explored the possible role chronic inflammation in RLS, or if anyone has any experience with nsaids as an adjunct to therapy? Some people believe in chronic inflammation as root cause of RLS. Inflammation does inhibit iron transport, moving iron out of the ...

Re: RLS constantly changing

I had "restless arms" (urge to move only in the arms, not the rest of my body) when I tried gabapentin and came off pramipexol/mirapex. But that was 10 years ago. Now it's either legs or my whole body.

Re: Explanation of role of ferritin

That’s a bit helpful but what is the difference in the roles played by iron and ferritin in RLS? Does a low iron level necessarily mean the ferritin level will be low? Does the iron supplementation for low iron levels also raise low ferritin levels? Can ferritin levels be low and iron levels normal...

Re: Oral Iron Therepy

When I was first diagnosed, my ferritin was 46. After several months of taking oral iron two or three times a day, it was up to 90 but had no effect on my RLS. I continued taking it once a day for several years and eventually hit 650 and it never helped my RLS. The Johns Hopkins data shows that onl...

Oxycodone timing

I've been on Oxycodone for almost 10 years now, with 20mg a day over 3 doses per day (ER), most recently 5mg in the late morning, 5mg in the late afternoon and 10mg in the evening. There are stretches where I have to go up to 25 or even 30mg a day for a few weeks. I noticed that the dose I take in t...
