Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Apologies for the spate of postings. When the gabapentin is working for me, I get 4-5 hours of sleep and suffer through the hangover-like side effects for all of the next day. When the gabapentin is not effective, which is the case tonight, I struggle to get 1-2 hours of sleep, I deal with the side ...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Addendum (sorry...). The gabapentin is also not consistently effective for me.

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Hi, again. (I see what happened; I forgot that the messages spilled over to page 2. Blame it on the gabapentin! It disorients me.) I really don't think I can tolerate the gabapentin, even at 50mg, because of the nausea and other side effects. But what can I replace it with?

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Addendum... Now that I have posted this, I see that I have duplicated information. I see two or three posts that were not on my screen a minute ago. I don't know what I did to make that happen. Sorry.

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Hi. I was sure I had relied to Holland's last post, but I must have put it on the wrong thread. Apologies if I duplicate information. Anyhow, in short, I followed his advice and split the 300mg gabapentin capsule into six 50mg capsules. Wednesday last, I took one capsule around 11:20 pm, after havin...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Holland, thanks for the tips. I guess I am still juggling dosages. Two nights ago, I took 50mg of gabapentin at 2:30 am. (I am still on 5mg of Ambien and not quite brave enough to stop it.) It worked, but I had a hangover the next day. Last night, I took 50mg of gabapentin at 11 pm. It also worked. ...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Holland, thanks. I think I did explain in my post that I was having trouble with insomnia and then my legs also began to give me problems. When that happened, I did up the dose of pramipexole, however reluctantly. The problems with the legs lasted only two days. I think that this is something that j...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
The trials and tribulations continue. Currently, I am taking 5mg methadone, 0.125mg pramipexole and 100mg gabapentin, all about an hour before going to sleep. I am also taking 2.5mg of Ambien (zolpidem), down from 5mg a week or two ago, and 10mg prior to that. As you can see, I am weaning myself off...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Boy, I don't know what I'd do without you guys, I really don't. I asked my neurologist for advice based on the same information which I put in my first post above. Her response: Up the dose of methadone. That did not make any sense to me since my legs were controlled at my current dose of methadone,...

Oops. I made a mistake in my first post: I have been taking 5 mg methadone in the evening and 2.5 mg in the morning...

Re: Trials and tribulations with opioids
Steve, that is VERY interesting and helpful, thanks. Two questions: (1) What dose of gabapentin do you take? and (2) if the gabapentin only gets you through half the night, why not take more gabapentin halfway through the night? Does it take too long to kick in?

Trials and tribulations with opioids
Hi, guys. Not the first time in the ongoing battle of dealing with RLS/WED, I am confused. I imagine that a lot of us have this in common. I thought I had found something that works. After experimenting with several opioids (always under doctor's care), I had settled on the following regimen: In the...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.
legbestill, I feel for you, if that's any help! I have been taking 20 mg of oxycontin in the evenings, which is enough for my legs to be completely under control and for me to sleep well. I take another 10mg of oxycontin around 6 am, and still another 10mg of oxycontin around Noon. How I got in into...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.
I have a question. I seem to recall reading that some people who were on high doses of a dopamine agonist, say pramipexole, and were able to wean themselves off of the drug –– that some of these people eventually went back to pramipexole at the 0.25mg dose (no higher) as one drug in a combination re...

Re: Getting off pramipexole etc.
Hi. Unfortunately, the selection of opiates available in Thailand is quite limited. When I was prescribed oxycontin to help me wean off the dopamine agonists, and possibly continue using as monotherapy or part of combination therapy, the hospital had only a 40mg dose. Since I needed to take two dose...
