Re: need a doctor in ontario canada

I don't know of anyone particularly, sorry. I hope someone does! If no one does, which is quite likely, it's not really helpful but you're not alone. Many of us have had to switch doctors and hunt around til we found someone who was willing to educate themselves on the disease. When this first becam...

Re: i'm new thought i would say hi

Be aware that some perfectly competent doctors are not familiar with WED/RLS, and can have as many misconceptions about it as the general public. I've had doctors who thought it was only in the legs, and only at night. They learned quickly that they were wrong. All they have to do is get interested ...

Re: edge of insanity

Hi Delta Welcome to the board! But so sorry about the circumstances that bring you here. I have moved your post to a tread (topic) of its own, and given it the name "edge of insanity" from one of your statements that seems to sum it all up. It is definitely a good idea to see your doctor w...

Re: Just Joined - My Thoughts and Questions

Re absorption, every body's different. Sulfate is more efficiently absorbed than gluconate if your guts can tolerate it. Some people take oral supplements and never get their ferritin levels up. Other people do. Some have been able to get intravenous iron that is effective in raising ferritin levels...

Re: Hi

It's also useful to get a diagnosis because there a few other disorders that mimic RLS/WED. Nocturnal leg cramps for one, probably because they co-occur with WED so often. Unfortunately, most doctors don't know anything about any of them, RLS/WED included so educate yourself. Then go for the diagnos...

"Mindy" didn't have RLS, because she was helped by Tylenol and sleep aids. RLS is not helped by Tylenol or sleep aids.

Re: Just Joined - My Thoughts and Questions

Hening, Buchfuhrer and Lee, 2008 (Clinical Management of Restless Legs Syndrome, p.199): "RLS patients should have their serum ferritin level determined even when their hemoglobin and serum iron levels are normal. The serum ferritin level is the most accurate and sensitive test (other than a bo...

Re: All Calm

It's magnesium citrate, one of a few forms of Magnesium supplement. Probably effective for cramps, but probably not for WED itself (painful or creepy WED).

Ann, that was so well said, and chipmunk too.

A thought for us about larrydougan - was it niacin or was it lowered BP that caused the improvement in WED symptoms?

I like that - sickening. Apt. I didn't want to believe it was worsened by stress, because I'd already had co-workers telling me it was entirely caused by stress and I knew darn well it was not. But I was forced to recognize that stress does make it worse. A couple of times when I was under heavy str...

PB, it seems to make more sense to switch from Requip to Requip XL, since as cornelia says you're used to Requip anyway, and you're leery of rocking the boat. It would be less of a change for your body.

Not funny but funny :D
I have done similar things but not from a med side effect, rather, from being tired beyond exhaustion.

@Ann - but you're taking the methadone some days now, aren't you? Does it still happen ? Or was it only when you were taking it every day? @ rthom that's an idea... I don't think I'd make it thru the night on the sort-acting, tho. plus I would be taking pills too often, & having to judge if I ne...

Spreading meds out solved daily mini-withdrawal

I changed the way I take my medication about 4 weeks ago, and I'm like a new person. I can't believe what I was living with before. For 3-6 hours every day, from mid-afternoon until 2 hr after I took my meds, I had increasingly worse WED symptoms combined with feeling slightly feverish, slightly nau...

opioids seem to work well for a lot of people, without as many side effects, but some people do sitll have various side effects from various opioids. Just because one of the possible side effects of gabapentin is weight gain, does not mean you will gain weight. It's a possible side effect, meaning a...
