Re: How to get dr to listen?

If you do decide to see an expert it will likely take a while before you get an appointment. I would second the suggestion that in the meantime you order the book (Lee Buchfuhrer et al) and bring it to your doctor so that he can see that opioids are a recognized option for treating rls. If one trama...

Re: switching from robinirole to gabapentin

What Steve says. I would imagine if you were on requip for so long, you will have augmented on it and that is why you are getting no sleep. It is VERY unlikely gabapentin will help at this stage. It is possible that it will help once your symptoms settle down but you should bear in mind that it is n...

Re: Raising iron levels

You have a devious mind, PB. I have decided, in lieu of glitter, I am going to start keeping all those horrible little plastic backs to the neupro patch. When I have an envelope full I will post it to the first medical professional to cross me thereafter. Have just spent the evening reorganizing my ...

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Thank you for that Holland. I am using neupro patches at moment - they (and other DAs) are just the best for me in terms of relief but I am too afraid to incorporate them into a daily routine long-term. I notice how up-beat you usually are and was surprised when you mentioned grouchiness. Your posts...

Re: Quitting Neupro Cold Turkey

Sorry to hear it. Well done for experimenting - if nothing else you know what doesn't work for you. It does seem that, although they do help some, for the majority gabapentin and pregabalin are of limited value.

Re: Raising iron levels

I never heard of this glitter-revenge treatment. Very subtle. Though is glitter really that immune to the ministrations of the vaccuum cleaner? I see a potential flaw in the business plan of the guy who hoped people would pay him to mail the stuff anonymously. Surely it would be easier/less expensiv...

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Jim, well done on getting this far. It is disappointing not to see more of an improvement but it will come. My understanding is that most people are over the worst after 10 - 14 days but everyone is slightly different. Be careful on your stool. I fell asleep (and fell down) while walking across my b...

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Beth, I haven't noticed feeling groggy the following day particularly but bear in mind that even groggy would contrast well with how I feel after very little sleep due to alerting. Plus my memory for things going back more than 3 weeks is poor and I have been quite disturbed at night and relatively ...

Re: Checking in, a hodge podge

Hi leggo, I too read your rant. I posted a long comment which seems to have disappeared into the system. It was in the middle of the night two nights ago and I can't remember much of it. I love your 'dirty rotten illness' description. I agree with Ann who is usually prescient on these issues that yo...

Re: Raising iron levels

Yawny, my celebratory treat is reading your posts.

Thanks for asking about the withdrawal. I think I turned a corner this week - feeling much more normal and sleeping a bit better. Last time it took 6 weeks but I was on a much higher dose then.

Re: Raising iron levels

Beth, Yes; I wondered was there something that could have caused the levels to spike. I don't feel as though I have an infection but various of my children have a cold at the moment. I have read the posts of the person you are talking about regarding the iron bisglycinate and methods of taking iron....

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Ann, I really like your pragmatic arrangement with your spouse to ensure regular intimacy. Although I haven't noticed a link between sex and rls, I do find that sex can cause me to have a very disturbed night afterwards. For this reason, my husband and I made a conscious choice to move our congressi...

Re: Requip & Erectile Dysfunction ???

Jim, I'm really sorry if my comments were discouraging. You have already made much quicker progress than I did post d/a so don't think you need to feel too concerned that you will emulate my experience. For all the difficulties I experienced withdrawing, I am 100% delighted to be off mirapexin. The ...

Re: Raising iron levels

Actually, that is two differences. It is difficult to be sure which, if either, is responsible for the jump but I hadn't been particularly diligent about taking the iron every day even before the previous blood tests so was already using a somewhat irregular system. Maybe my system was just better a...

Raising iron levels

I got the results of my blood test today and to my amazement my serum ferritin level had risen to just under 140. To put it in context it was 39 about a year ago. I started taking ferrous fumerate (on empty stomach with vit C). Next test it had risen to 44 - after 3 or 4 months. Then it went to 79. ...
