Em, when I went to my PCP, he really didn't know anything. On about my 8th visit, he said, "Wow, you know, I have RLS!" He has it very mild, only once every few months. He also recognized several patients with it, two by the medications they took. They had Mirapex listed, but were young. So, he aske...

Yep, it is about Harvey Pekar - there's a part in it with Crumb, too! Of course, how could these two NOT know each other??? It's really good - part documentary, part movie. Y Tu Mama Tambien is excellent; you won't regret it at all. I think I rented it from Blockbuster's mail order program when we t...

Fidget, I'm wondering if it matters to taper it. I've not heard anything about it, but I know it didn't matter in my case. I tried stopping cold turkey twice AND by tapering twice with Mirapex (was on a relatively low dose). I got the increase in symptoms equally bad both ways. Ugh. I tried three di...

Mmmmm, 14 hours of delicious sleep. That is better than sex! Hang in there. How's your wife doing with this? Sometimes it is so hard - what we are going through - that we have a hard time helping our significant others understand or allowing them to help us. It's hard to talk about it, to share with...

Glad you found the discussion. There have been several - one good one is in the Pharmaceutical section in the "sticky" post. If you do have augmentation, the best solution is to switch drugs ASAP. If you stay on the Requip with augmentation, you run the risk of the augmentation being permanent. Glad...

It's such a hard decision. . .mostly because we all react differently. I guess I'd follow the Mayo Clinic's algorithm. It's in the New to RLS section in the "sticky" post about managing RLS. Seems to me that a good education is really one of the best ways to help ourselves through this. That post ha...

I had PLMS since I was a toddler. My family used to laugh at me - the covers were askew, I was askew - no one would sleep with me! I did develop RLS, but very mildly. It wasn't until my forties that the RLS progressed, and then only because of drugs. Had I not taken a dopamine agoinst for the PLMS, ...

Steelergal, it may not be all the meds, but I can attest to them being a likely culprit! It may not help that the hormones are probably changing some, too. And being chronically tired? Nothing like that to wipe out any interest I might have in sex! I can only imagine how hard it must be for you to f...

This is great! Lots more to look for. . . Il Postino was very good as was Lost in Translation. Amelie - it's on my mental list. I loved American Splendor, Mike. I thought Sideways was pretty good, too. I was not sure I'd like it and I liked it more than I thought I would. Capote is another on my men...

Thanks, Brandy. I'll write them all down; they sound perfect. We got HBO last season to watch Six Feet Under and the Sopranos, rather than waiting for them to be released on video. I've started Tivo-ing some movies. Maybe some of the ones you recommended will show up. If not, there is always Blockbu...

Movies, anyone?
Not that all of us can watch them unless meds have the RLS under control, but was wondering if anyone has any good ones to recommend. I ventured to the movie theatre for the first time since the RLS went ballistic. Since it seems under control, I thought I'd try it. It worked! We saw Pirates of the ...

Welcome Smithwest, Jen, and Basswipe. I know it's like an oxymoron to welcome anyone to RLS, but I'm not, really. Just welcoming you to the board. We all know that we wouldn't willingly welcome RLS on anyone. . .OK, well, maybe some of the idiot doctors I had - just for a few minutes (or at least on...

My first thought when I read your lobotomy post was of the movie/book, Mike. It's one of the few movies that I didn't actually hate after reading the book first. Speaking of that, did you know shock therapy has totally come back into fashion!!!!! It seems to really help older patients with depression.
