Re: sleep deprivation
For RLS - is it possible for the legs to be better i.e. no twitching, pain etc but the sleep problems persist? Additional to my other response: I did suffer from insomnia for all my adult life (~30 years now), of course it got worse when my RLS manifested itself, about 12 years ago. However, I slep...

Poll: Oral iron and ferritin levels
Triggered from another discussion http://bb.rls.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10507#p99047 I would be extremely interested to collect some data from people who have used oral iron supplements. To make a long story short (and save you reading through that thread, even though I think it's an interesting rea...

Re: BID theory and ferritin levels
...Makes sense :-) So we should have responders to oral iron even if the ferritin is high, is that the correct conclusion? ... Well, sort of. The problem is that even with a ferritin of only 100 in the absence of inflammation, the hepcidin levels respond, drastically limiting the uptake of iron fro...

Re: sleep deprivation
Apparently I have a melatonin deficit, I''m sleeping a lot better (though not nearly as good as healthy people) taking melantonin, tryptophan, and a teaspoon of gaba (Gamma-Aminobutyric acid) at night. I don’t believe GABA crosses the blood brain barrier, so you are better off supplementing with a ...

Re: Experience with Injectafer?
...My only concern is that the recommended dose is Injectafer "2x1500mg in the US, 1x 1000mg outside the US" if I read it correctly. Huh? Apparently we need only 1/3rd of the iron? Ah well... Fun fact: My RLS specialist who works in the neurologic center of one of the biggest university hospitals i...

Re: Experience with Injectafer?
Fun fact: My RLS specialist who works in the neurologic center of one of the biggest university hospitals in Europe has no way of administering the injections, even though I convinced him (with difficulty) that we should try iron IVs. Apparently the IBD hypothesis has little traction over here. :( ...

Re: Dr. Gundry's supplement
Glutamine and Carnitine in fairly high doses That is a warning bell to start with, a simple Google will show the link in the microbiome to Carnitine and cardio vascular disease, so ignorant is one appropriate adjective to add to Gundry’s claims about himself. Glutamine is safe and I consume it over...

Re: Suicidal thoughts
Sorry for a very late reply, but I was just revisiting some old threads... I can recommend Golden root (Rhodiola rosea) as a natural antidepressant (see this thread here: http://bb.rls.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9805). It is a stimulant so you'll want to take it in the morning, and I had trouble goin...

Re: Experience with Injectafer?
For us not located in the US, what is the ingredient of Injectafer and what's the dose? How many IVs did you get? The generic name of Injectafer (the ingredient) is ferric carboxymaltose. The brand name outside of USA is Ferinject and the dose is 1000mg IV over 7.5 minutes, given one time. This inf...

Re: BID theory and ferritin levels
Ferritin is a storage protein that is in all tissues, AND in the blood. The blood level (what is ordinarily measured) correlates well with the amount of iron stored in the bone marrow. It does NOT correlate well with iron stored elsewhere, especially the other major iron storage organ, the liver. T...

BID theory and ferritin levels
I'm sorry for spamming this forum here a bit, but I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to discovering a few things about this wretched RLS... About BID (brain iron deficiency) and RLS. I understand that many patients have low iron levels in the brain, yet high ferritin levels. I also know that ...

Re: Dr. Gundry's supplement
I've just had something unexpected happen. I ordered something called Gundry MD Total Restore Gut Lining Support Blend 90 Capsules from Amazon: [...] You're on to something there. Re: Open question #8: Antidepressants and WED
I found it interesting to revisit some of my old "open questions" from 5 years ago. They were posed when the iron hypothesis hadn't picked up as much steam as it has now - we knew that iron was a factor, but didn't know that BID is the likely cause for RLS. So I'm curious. I made progress on some of...
