Re: Neupro or gabapentin encarbil?

The IRLSSG augmentation white paper basically suggests neupro or gabapentin type meds (like Horizant) for augmentation, so your neuro is following the recommendations. With your gabapentin problems, Neupro is the obvious choice. It does have 2 problems, very expensive and lots of rash problems. I'd ...

Re: ferratin

My ferratin level was 60 in a recent test, but the PA said there was a high hematocrit level that indicated a high level of available iron so iron therapy was not indicated. Does this make sense? No, the PA doesn't understand that the "normal" use of ferritin is to determine if a person h...

Re: ferratin

Ferritin is a storage protein reflecting the amount of stored iron in the body. That is why some people can take iron supplements and have an improvement in their symptoms before the blood level of ferritin increases much. Taking ferrous sulfate tablets 3 times daily will increase the speed at which...

Re: What Severe RLS is Like

I believe suboxone is messing with my nervous system as I am getting unexplainable jolts of pain all over including feet, hands legs, head... I have been wondering about something similar. For the last 2 months I have been having similar pains, seems like they're slowly getting worse. I take kratom...

Re: Augmentation

Restarting the dopamine agonist at a low dose and keeping the dose as low as possible will make augmentation less likely. I take kratom along with mirapex and it helps keep my jumpy legs under control with less mirapex.

Re: Augmentation

If you can sleep reasonably well without using requip or mirapex or other dopamine agonists, I would stay off them. However, the dopamine agonists are the best tolerated of the reasonably effective treatments for restless leg syndrome. Generally once a person has augmented, restarting a dopamine ant...

Re: Favorite MM vaporizer

I'm not sure you understand that there are two entirely different types of vaping. What you are referring to is vaporizing the chemicals that are in the marijuana leaf, you put marijuana leaf into the vaporizer. The more common type of vaping which I am referring to involves buying a small cartridge...

Re: Medical Marijuana

My experience with medical marijuana is similar to Steve's, I am not yet on methadone, I am able to control my leg jumping with kratom and low-dose mirapex. I find that the marijuana definitely helps sleep, but doesn't help much for the leg jumping. I use edible marijuana every night.

Re: Favorite MM vaporizer

Well you're lucky, in California there are lots of pre-made medical marijuana vaporizer cartridges that fit the common vape pen used for nicotine products. I took the recommendations of a friend who has done several types of vaping, and bought a cheapo vape pen at a smoke shop, not the marijuana dis...

Re: MM strain suggestions

I live in California. I read the full 20 pages. I tried various strains of medical marijuana, smoked, vaporized, and edible. I did not find too much difference in my sleep Improvement with the various strains. They all seem to help, as long as it wasn't that special CBD only product. I now use only ...

Re: Sleep monitor

The basic problem that I had in trying to evaluate my sleep using monitoring apps and techniques is that the data from ones that I tried did not correlate with how I felt. I used numerous movement monitors, heart rate monitors, sound monitors, and heart rate variability monitors. There were many tim...

Re: Question about pharmas, augmentation, etc...

As I'm frequently injured, I've been "hoping" for an injury bad enough to require a week or two of pain meds so that I could ween myself off the DA's. I know that sounds borderline crazy but I'm pretty sure most of y'all understand. Not crazy! What's crazy is that doctors can't or won't p...

Re: Starting Neupro tomorrow

Neupro helped me in a day or 2. Yes, I got a rash, and rash is a very frequent cause of stopping neupro. Biggest problem for me was lower stomach area. I just skipped those areas. Also be aware, it is VERY expensive, hopefully you have good insurance coverage.

Re: Ferritin decrease to 90ng from 115ng enough to increase RLS or augmentation risk?

1. Probably not. Ferritin is a pretty good test for our body storage iron, however is not a good test for brain iron concentration. However it is the best test that is commonly available. 2. No. Transferrin tells less about brain Iron than ferritin. 3. Yes. While there is a good chance that increasi...

Re: Good luck for many years. Now in the pits.

Had iron checked. 60, but PA said other numbers indicated plenty of iron in the blood, so wasn't comfortable supplementing. .... The normal range for ferritin used by doctors is that anything above about 20 is "normal." Problem is, that "normal" is for enough iron to make red bl...
