Re: Another year of relief

OK Tommy, I’m back again and I’m very concerned. Please take a moment to consider your situation and ask yourself how you should proceed. I admit I didn’t take it very seriously when I posted that Susan Owens states: “Our group discusses how to help the body more gently detoxify from oxalate.” And t...

Re: Another year of relief

A couple more bits of information in response to your questions: A link on the lowoxalateinfo.com website leads to an article by Michael Liebman, PhD, in which he says the following which I believe could help account for a tendency to increased urination: “Oxalic acid has the ability to form a stron...

Re: Another year of relief

Tommy, I’m not sure, but it seems like you are “detoxifying” as suggested by Susan Owens, who seems to be the outstanding advocate for a Low Oxalate Diet. She believes that the body sequesters harmful oxalate in various organs and shifting to a LOD causes the “dumping” of these stores. Because I eas...

Re: Another year of relief

Steve, Please accept my apology. You are absolutely right that I cannot speak for the people who have used the medications. And it is really encouraging to hear from someone who has used them successfully. I denied myself that option partly because so many of the posts I read were written by people ...

Re: Another year of relief

Thank you Tommy, and good luck. Let us know if things do get worse before they get better. The following is part of an email I have sent to my sister, my wife, our four children and their spouses. The first portion of the email is my writing. The second portion is Tommy's post which I haven't copied...

What to expect when "detoxifying"

As many of you know, I have been posting for some time regarding my almost complete cessation of RLS symptoms as a result of following a low oxalate diet. I have just come across the website, lowoxalate.info, posted by Susan Costen Owens, Research Associate, Husson Science Research Institute in 2006...

Re: Another year of relief

About 6 years ago I made some changes in my diet in the hope of increasing my general energy level. I experienced some abatement of my chronic leg discomfort. For the next 5 years I kept a diary of virtually everything I ate and how I felt each day. My intention was to see if I could find a causal r...

Another year of relief (Low-oxalate diet)

Now that I have achieved more than a year of virtually complete relief from RLS I continue to believe that following a diet low in oxalic acid has made the difference for me. I offer the following guidelines in the hope that they may help others. My primary vegetables have been broccoli, cauliflower...

Re: I hope I have it right this time . . .

Thank you both for your suggestions. It is interesting that phytic acid poses similar issues as oxalic acid in terms of interfering with mineral absorption. While I have been generally avoiding nuts and whole grains (wheat and rice) I have been having steel cut oats for breakfast most days, and very...

Re: I hope I have it right this time . . .

Today I read most of the posts on this website concerning the Wahl’s Diet thread. I also listened to Dr. Wahl’s TED talk. I am in awe of what she has achieved. And the dedication that some of you have displayed to this promising prospect. It also made realize that I must sound like an idiot. Here I ...

I hope I have it right this time . . .

Friends, I have continued to keep a diary of my eating and my reactions to various foods. I think I have come up with a deeper insight into our affliction. Allow me to share my latest conclusions and a brief account of how I connected the dots. 1-My previous post on this website that certain goitrog...

I can switch it on and off . . .

Almost a year ago I reported here that I have achieved virtually complete relief from RLS by avoiding goitrogenic foods, those foods which inhibit thyroid function. Because my relief after many years of suffering has become complete and absolute, I really hope that others can experience the same suc...

Another year, another breakthrough . . .

As I reported about a year ago, I have had almost complete relief from RLS by following the Blood Type Diet as developed by Dr. Peter d'Adamo. I would sometimes have occasional flare ups of RLS, but they were minor and short lived. I attributed these episodes to certain foods which I thought I shoul...

Update on my cure

Over a year ago I reported a complete cessation of all RLS symptoms within 3 days as a result of my following Dr. Peter d’Adamo’s blood type diet as explained in his book, Eat Right 4 Your Type . Since that time my general health has continued to improve. My previously elevated cholesterol level has...

Knowing what I know now, I would skip the broccoli and just use the Blood Type Diet as described in Peter D'Adamo's "Live Right For Your Type". I believe this diet cured me in three days.
