Thanks for all the info. The MRI and blood work, OK, but a sleep study just seemed unnecessary. I already know I'm not sleeping because my legs are crawling all night. I guess if having a medical technician "officially" observe that I'm not sleeping or sleeping restlessly accompanied with ...

According to the info he gave me on the "sleep clinic", it's just one night, with the electrodes and monitors and I leave in the morning. I can bring my computer (no internet connection though) or a movie or whatever to amuse myself. I'm not on Requip or any other RLS specific medication r...

Neurologist

Anyone have any experiences with RLS and Neurologists? Went to see my GP two weeks ago to discuss new treatment options and showed him the Mayo algorithm. He was quite interested, took the time to read it and asked if he could keep it. He was not willing to prescribe any of the opiates himself when ...

Videogames distract me too. An hour of any FPS or old school arcade game will get my mind off my legs.

I grew up in a house were both parents smoked too. It wasn't until I went to college that I noticed the smell when visiting on breaks. I didn't smoke then, I started my senior year in college. When I moved out I had a non-smoking roomate so I always smoked outside. To this day I still do because I d...

Interesting Zach. I smoke too, but don't notice any increase in the RLS during or afterwards. I'm a light smoker (avg 7-10 per day). I don't notice any difference even when I'm forced to go without. like a recent cross country flight that ended up being 12 hours because of a cancelled connecting fli...

Most of the literature about RLS says that people have a hard time describing their symptoms and so did I when I first saw my doctor. But here is what I've come up with for mine. Question: Have you ever road a motorcycle or sat in a massage/vibrating chair for a length of time and then when the engi...

Well after a week of using the Homedic massager, it seems to have been a fluke. It worked somewhat the 2nd and 3rd try, 4th and 5th, no noticeable difference and once it made it worse. My RLS has been more active lately (spring fever no doubt, except we only get teasers of warmer days and then right...

Here is something I am an expert on. As someone who has had sever tooth pain and two emergency root canals (one over Christmas, couldn't get an appt for a week), pain killers didn't do much for the throbbing ache that was my jaw. What did help? A $4 tube of Ambesol or Oragel. While at the drugstore ...

Re: The muscle cramps in my foot I think that my foot cramping might be because of my new car (giggle or laugh here). It has a large pedal for the accelerator with much more resistance than what I've ever driven before. My other car has a small sensitive pedal (less resistance). All I need is the ti...

My RLS is mostly during the evenings. So I only use the xanax as I'm going to bed. At first the RLS was an all day thing, before any medications at all. After learning what that it was RLS and starting medication, I just learned to ignore it during the day, and it hasn't been bad for the past few ye...

I have an appointment with my doc in a couple weeks and I'm going to ask about methadone. I've got the algorithm. Hope he is understanding, which I think he will be. When I first complained of these weird sensations in my legs he immediately recognized it as RLS (I was the one who thought BS then). ...

I know I'm replying to an old topic, I'm new here so all of this is new to me. I've had RLS for about 3 years. I have a Homedic vibrator/massager that fits over my chair. I've had it for years just sitting on an old recliner and rarely use it, but last night my symptoms hit early and hard so after s...

I use Xanax and it works great for me. I'm new to this board, and glad that I found it to know that I'm not alone or crazy. My RLS seems mild compared to other peoples stories here. Without any meds I will sleep in short bursts like 90 mins or so (usually accompanied by bizarre dreams) only to be wo...

For me, it helps, at least temporarily. I can relax afterward and usually fall asleep (if at night) but will probably be awake again in a couple hours.

If it's in the daytime (a time which for me the RLS is usually minimal) I can get in a short restful nap.
