A World of Hurt: Fixing Pain Medicine's Biggest Mistake
This is a short book out today by a NY Times reporter named Barry Meier. I heard him on Fresh Air today and then downloaded the book. It's an e-book on Amazon and I think I remember it is only 1.99. It took me about an hour to read. At any rate, it seems to me to be an effort to rein in the prescrib...

Hi EeFall,
Just a quick note to tell you that I (and I'm sure many others) on this board are reading this thread with our hearts in our mouths hoping that this trip will bring you relief. Please keep us up on what's happening.

Re: WED/Hyper at night
Yeah, Ann, my guess is that most of our experience is like yours. The disease causes the anxiety, not the other way around. And, for me anyway, the hyper-alert feeling as well.

Re: WED/Hyper at night
I think there is a chicken/egg aspect to this hyper-alertness and anxiety. Which causes which? Probably because of my age, I am so suspicious when the medical profession decides that problems women have are caused by some mental state. Personally, since I won the lottery as far as being raised in a ...

Re: WED/Hyper at night
Polar Bear and Ann, I'm so sorry that you're not sleeping well at night. But I'm just so curious now as to the part this hyper alertness at night plays in the WED disease. It is not listed as one of the defining factors, but I think for me it was an earlier severe symptom than the RL feeling. I was ...

WED/Hyper at night
Now that I'm taking kratom, and sleeping naturally (I think) for the first time in years, I'm realizing that, for me, the early and primary symptom of WED was the jittery, hyper feeling at night that goes with it. For at least ten years I've had many nights when I slept little, if at all. I felt jit...

Re: Update on what's helped my partner with all day RLS
That's great that your partner has found something that works so well. And it's great that she has a partner like you who is so involved in her care FYI It looks like Amazon has the same product without the need for a script: m Kratom is working very well for me at the moment, but it's great to know...

Re: Article on Kratom
I understand concerns about quality and dosage. But I've read through all of the comments on that article and the one quoted above, by Sara, seems very much of an outlier to me. Almost all of the posts talk about how valuable Kratom was in helping with pain, or in helping with withdrawal from other,...

Re: Latest research about glutamate involvement
This article explains how adenosine counteracts glutamate, and makes us sleepy: m Here is a quote from the article: The research team showed that under normal "awake" conditions these arousal centers release an excitatory chemical called glutamate. Glutamate is a neurotransmitter, a chemic...

Re: Malignant RLS?
Perhaps it may help doctors dealing with these patients to have more sympathy and understanding--and feel like they have the medical backing now to be more aggressive in their treatment. I have the idea now that many doctors really have no clue how severe RLS can be.

Re: Article on Kratom
Peanut1 thank you so much for your caution on Kava Kava. I definitely will not try it then. I don't want that risk! And Erika, thank you for the article link. I didn't realize that study had published any results yet. So interesting! When the study was on-going I found this link: m It says that aden...

Re: Article on Kratom
Hi Erika, I take Red Dragon capsules--usually 3 or 4 a night is enough to take care of my symptoms. But I've never taken opioids before, and so probably have not developed any tolerance. From reading other blogs and postings, I see most people take a good deal more. I'm not getting any side effects ...

Re: Article on Kratom
Those are very good points about unregulated drugs. But here's where I am. I have read a good deal of the postings on this board (not all, certainly, but a lot). Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not seeing anyone posting who is saying, in effect, "The drugs prescribed have been great wit...

Article on Kratom
There is an interesting article in Forbes Magazine here m The writer is dubious about kratom, but about a hundred people posted comments (click that you want to read all comments after the article) and the comments were almost completely positive. So the author then did a test himself of Kratom and ...
